More info required, dudes. I am hearing a very loud droning noise from under the centre console/middle of engine bay when moving at 60mph+. Is it the driveshaft or summat else?

I'm seriously considering buying a modern wee shit-box, I can't stand these damn noises!

When you say everything do you mean everything? Top mounts? wishbone bushes?

Both would cause knocking over bumps.

Check the bushings at the ends of the steering rack housing - if they are worn the vertical play will give the same sort of knock as droplinks over rough surfaces

If it's a bit like a dull thud over undulating surfaces and pot holes it sounds exactly like the c2 and I've also replaced ball joints and bushes. Only thing left is the top mount so my money is on that too.

Top mounts are my vote, too. But chodweaver seems clued up!

Thanks for all replies, Obi Wanks, much appreciated..

Strut mounts replaced but steering rack bushes not. Passenger side caliper is a bit sticky, too.

Will mention this to mechanics.

The thing is, the garage have been over it like a rash several times, including on slider plates, and not found the cause.

Very frustrating.

Bit obvious but not a rattling plastic bottom engine cover if they have one... My dad's B6 Passat did similar track roddy sounding knocks over rough surfaces and it was this...

Not that it really helps, but mine crashes and bangs over potholes like the suspension isn't even bolted on, but the MOT didn't even bring up an advisory in that area

Sounds like a BX!

Do the subframe bolts ever work loose over time?

I was going to say subframe bushes. Not a Civic but had similar thuds under a car when the subframe bushes were knackered.

These don't suffer the same driveshaft issues as some Rondas do they? That'd certainly explain why it's not being picked up on shaker plates.

Hey guys. I have had the driveshafts (including bearing and intermediary half shaft) replaced on both sides and that infernal knocking noise seems to have been cured, too.

Just for your reference if the problem comes up for anyone in the future.

Flipping passenger side driveshaft was fecked it seems.
