CortinaDave Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Surely there's more value in these than 50 quid over the weighbridge? Spotted in my local scrappy today. 50's Merc 220's. Sadly its a high turnover yard so they'll be bean cans by the weekend at absolute best. Joey spud and CreepingJesus 2
Junkman Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 They should have been raced first. 155V6, solid61, M'coli and 3 others 6
mercrocker Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Absolutely no doubt they are/were as rotten as a pear....But some useful parts wasted there, surely? Personally speaking, that one with the short plate would have served me admirably as garden ornament for the rest of my days. Alternatively, I could have semi-closed my garage door on it and snarled "Feck Off" at anybody who asked if it was for sale.... Junkman, eddyramrod, doobietoo and 9 others 12
Squire_Dawson Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Unfortunately loads of rare and interesting stuff has been crushed over the decades. The last hope is that the yard owner is appreciative of the fact and will grant a reprieve.
CortinaDave Posted April 25, 2017 Author Posted April 25, 2017 he's quite a sweary / shouty not to be messed with type although not unreasonable if theres a deal to be done and he has sold cars back out in the past. They did look rough but surely worth something
DodgeRover Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 If he's got any sense they'll either be on oval chat or ebay later tonight Dave_Q 1
omegod Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 I guarantee there's a couple of grand worth of trim etc on those at the least mercrocker, egg and saucedoctor 3
mercrocker Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Actually, I would consider it a fair wager that SXB 85 ends up on a gangstaYo 2012 Range Rover reading (in the driver's mind) like SeXBoSS innit.... AMC Rebel and egg 2
Junkman Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 I guarantee there's a couple of grand worth of trim etc on those at the least Yeah, there always is. If not five grand. Until you try to sell it, that is.Then it's worth fuck all AND you have to deal with the general public.I have scrapped many cars just because I couldn't bear any of that. Imagine I'd make it known that I have some P6 bits I don't need.Next thing is I'd have to talk to those Classic Rover Forum tards.Nah, man. Off to the tip it goes. It's much more fulfilling if you can tell someone desperately lookingfor that elusive part that you binned one last week. CortinaDave, saucedoctor, AMC Rebel and 14 others 17
trigger Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Apparently they are both sold and are awaiting collection. Both have V5s and the black ones a good shell and the others a donor car. mercrocker, saucedoctor, Vin and 13 others 16

Actually I came across an old merc in one of my local yards, not sure what type it was alf892 and The Reverend Bluejeans 2
sierraman Posted April 25, 2017 Posted April 25, 2017 Sometimes a lot of scrapyards might make a lot of money but in purely a business sense they can be a bit dim. The one near me has in recent past baled a rotten but not unsaleable Mk2 Capri.

alf892 Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 If I've got spare bits I'll tend to give them away to someone who has a use for them. This way I hope to generate some good karma........so that when I'm the poor sap looking for that elusive part some smug cunt doesn't tell me he just took it down the tip last week Rod/b, drum, AlabamaShrimp and 5 others 8
lisbon_road Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 Good to hear they've been sold. I flog everything mostly on ebay. Don't get a lot of trouble really.
alf892 Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 You should have told that to your haunted P6................... HillmanImp 1
The Reverend Bluejeans Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 There are very few scrap dealers who don't know the value of everything down to the last shilling. No way were those Mercs going to be squashed. alf892 and mercrocker 2
sierraman Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 I know they are exceptionally tight moaning bastards. Probably because of who they have to deal with. richardthestag, mercedade and Jerzy Woking 3
Uncle Jimmy Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 That Karma thing is total bollocks.Someone's been skipping their yoga classes. Junkman, uk_senator and alf892 3
Uncle Jimmy Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 In my experience there will be wannabes scaling the castle walls to get hold of some old hub cap or accessory (just flogged a roof rack I found in the garage of the house I sold for £45, yes, to a Dubber) but....If it's large and oily you'll have a rough time getting shot of it.
tul66 Posted April 26, 2017 Posted April 26, 2017 I'm sure I passed them on a flat bed heading east along the M8.
