Mondeo MK2 Key programming

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

Picked up a Mondeo Mk2 at the weekend, With it I received x2 keys. Both keys are the 3 button fob type. One, works from buttons for unlocking/locking and starts the car. The other, Unlocks doors manually. Fobs functions not working nor does it start the car.

I've put it in the ignition and tried the 0 to ll position 4 times until the LED stays on for immobiliser. Pressing buttons on keyfob then resounds in nothing, no noises,no blips etc. Have changed the battery in the fob. Key also does not start the car, Is there anyway to program it DIY so that it does ? It has the same chip type as in the main key.

Any ideas ? Thanks.

Sounds like you need to get the fob tested, may be faulty. Many motor factors can do this, they'll have a little box that tells if any signals are being transmitted.

You can self test it by pressing the bonnet sensor down 4-5 times in succession it should beep. I think if it won't sort it out this way it's quite a bit more involved. While ever it opens and closes the doors with the key I'd be tempted to leave it.

Hmmmmm it's going to be a shared car so ideally would like the key to work lol. Where abouts is bonnet sensor located ?

I might nip into local Autolocksmiths see what they say.

Thanks

Bonnet sensor is the push pin on the slam panel.

If it's the same as earlier Mondeos you can use any door switch, but the bonnet is easiest to push in quick succession. That puts it into test mode and then each operation (open, close, lock, unlock) makes the horn beep.

Does sound like the fob is dead, maybe a bad solder joint. Timpsons have the little tester box I think too.
