Anyone know where I can get a decent 1300 / 1500cc engine for a Dolomite?

Just had to use our last one! What bits do you need? I have several in pieces.

If you want a decent recon, Rimmer Bros will probably have one, but at some ridiculous price!

I work for a classic car restoration company and we've just had to get the one we were working on rebuilt recently, we tried loads and loads of places including Rimmers but I recall there was a problem-can't remember but I think they didn't have any core units to rebuild so none 'on the shelf' or something. As I said we had ours machined by Coventry Boring & Machining and just re-built it ourselves, not cheap though.

Thanks for the replies, it's for a friend of mine. The crank's gone on her 1300 Dolly, I reckon a second hand unit is in order but they're thin on the ground at the mo. She's in London and been offered one at £250, maybe I'm tight but it seems pricey for used though. Happy to come and fetch if anyone knows of one!

Is a 1500 any good?

Short 1500 engine that was reconditioned several years ago, it has been in my garage ever since. The barrels are rebored with new pistons and the crank is reground with new shells. There is also a couple of 1500 cylinder heads and a 1500 overdrive gearbox. If any of your members are interested I am open to any reasonable offers. Contact Neil on 01942 257714 (16/03/09)

Its a bit of a treck-but maybe of some use

£250 is a bit steep really. I don't think you should have to pay more than £100 for a used lump, especially if its an "undesirable" big bearing 1300.Try sending a PM to "Lewis" on R-R. He might have something lying around as he's had numerous Dollys and he's not too far away in Milton Keynes.

Cheers Seth I will.Spoke to the guy with the recon engine and I reckon that might go at a reasonable price but it is in Wigan which is a bit of a schlep....still, beggars etc!
