sierraman Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 Had a bit of grief yesterday morning and again this morning. When you start (no smoke and starts easy) the glow plug light flashes and your in limp cock mode. Restarting several times and you are fine for the rest of the day. Restarts fine once warm. My old man reckons it's the glow plugs but it's only had a set on it 20,000 miles. Any thoughts? I'm thinking the Delphi pump is one it's way out No fault codes apart from P1000 which means nothing.
Lacquer Peel Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 P1000 is a typo, it's P100 for buy a P100. sierraman, Dave_Q, The Moog and 3 others 6
srad34 Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 If the glow plugs or module were duff, it would just be an arse to start. fuel pump/filter possibly but I would expect a fuel pressure fault code
sutty2006 Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 What year is it? If it's Euro 4 (55plate onwards) then it could be a few things
twosmoke300 Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 If it's got a dpf then glow plug failure puts them in limp because it uses them for doing a regen
overrun Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 My old 53 plate 130 TDCi had a cracked cam sensor, but that would make it cut out in top gear at low RPM.
sierraman Posted April 9, 2017 Author Posted April 9, 2017 It's got a new cam sensor in it. They're that cheap I chucked a new one on months ago. Thing is it hasn't cost me a shilling yet (apart from a £11 set of pads) so I don't want to get drawn into plundering money into it. Spent £400 buying it back in October so if it's something serious I'm not too upset as I've had my money's worth out of it, done about 5000 trouble free miles in it so it's done the job. Spoke with my tame mechanic and he thinks it could be a duff injector. It's a Euro 3 I think, it's a 54 plate. No DPF.
sierraman Posted April 10, 2017 Author Posted April 10, 2017 Had more of a thought about this today, put £10 of diesel in last week from the villiage filling station which is due to close. Could be shit diesel from bottom of the tank. Lent it to Fatha Sierra this week while his cars out of service and it started up no bother this morning. Ordered a Bosch filter see if that makes a difference.
PiperCub Posted April 10, 2017 Posted April 10, 2017 Can you drain the fuel filter housing to check for water/crap/contaminated fuel on these things (like you can on say an XUD)? Or is there no drain tap fitted? (Never touched one - that's why I ask).
sierraman Posted April 10, 2017 Author Posted April 10, 2017 Yes there's a tap but I'm thinking it's maybe the filter it's a cheap one
Jezzerh Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 I had a 52 plate Mondy. This happened twice, needed a new injector each time. At that time only Ford could calibrate them and it cost me £400 a go. Fuckers.
hairymel Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 my 52 plate mondeo tdci was going into limp, new fuel filter (delphi is oem fit and is supposed to be best) sorted it out.
sierraman Posted April 16, 2017 Author Posted April 16, 2017 I've a feeling you are right it is an injector fault, already replaced the Filter with a Bosch one. It's done it again today, funny thing is it did it after I'd popped to the shop, restarted it several times then it was fine. Then did a 80 mile round trip without problems. Gave £400 for it in October, I've had my money's worth out of it already. I've two choices, fuck it off now on Gumtree whilst it's working ok or run it into the ground until it becomes a problem. The test runs out in June. What should I do?
Dave_Q Posted April 16, 2017 Posted April 16, 2017 MONEDO TDCI SPEARS OR REAPERZ, MOT AND FULL VOSA HISTORY. GLOW PULG LITE FLASHIG BUT MI MATE WIV A CODE READER SAYS ITS JUST THA GLO PLUGS. £450ovno egg 1
sierraman Posted April 16, 2017 Author Posted April 16, 2017 Come on your going on the assumption I'd tell them the fucker was coming on😀. Decided to take it for the test in June, if it costs less than a hundred to get through, I'll pay it then run it till it packs in, I don't do many miles now so could be a while before it manifests itself.
