I may be missing an in joke - but those spare on the boot thingies were common back in the day, because the complex DeDion inboard disc rear end robs nearly all the boot space.

The boot space is utter shit with the spare in it hence the option of having the wheel on the boot, personally i think they look a bit wank and sooner lose some of the boot space but each to their own.

That spare wheel kit makes the bootlid ridiculously heavy and unpleasant to use. The little metal prop is finicky too.
