I am wary of a lot of additives - particularly those offered by supermarkets and halfords etc. However, this stuff has had good reviews here and in the states so I have punted £21 on a bottle.

I noticed the boost pressure sensor on the vectra was dirty so I have cleaned it - hopefully this was the cause of the problems. The additive is purely preventative - I dont mind spending £20 now and agian to ensure the car runs smoothly.

Thoughts?

Id bung it on Retro Rides, get what you can for it and delete thread on here, i was given some for Mrs 95 quids Gaylander as it hunts and smokes like uncle Bucks car for first 5-10 seconds after start up...did absolutely cock all, she's still equally horrified on start up after posh business meetings

A diesel that runs badly at start up is usually suffering knackered glow plugs. No magic potion is going to cure that. Omega needs a couple of bursts on a cold day.

As I said I am using it as maintainence not as a repair - no magic potion will fix knackered parts

An awkward/ smokey common-rail car is more likely to have dribbly injectors/ a weak high pressure pump than a glow plug issue.

I think these (rather expensive) potions can have some benefit, although I wouldn't like to say exactly what.  I know the Alfa boys rave about Millers diesel additive-

I do wonder if a cupful of two stroke oil in to your full tank of diesel would do the same thing however.

What are the actual symptoms you are having?

If it's a bit of roughness first thing I'm a morning or a slightly uneven idle that doesn't affect drive ability I'd ignore it, run it till it becomes a problem. Other than that I guarantee you'll follow it round the car, wasting no end of time and money. Old diesels are fine but accept them as disposable, once you start getting into 'restoration' or trying to sort out a slightly leaky injector you are wasting your time.

I'll just pop these in here.

I'm in that mindset. It starts first time, every time, with the rest of the drive faultless, my reply to Brens original post ref the additive, as it was free I thought I'd bung it in and see if any improvement on any aspect but alas none

This is where people start losing fortunes trying to get them running like a petrol would. If it starts, idles ok and drives ok and doesn't smoke too much I'd leave alone. Start worrying when it's going into limp home all the time (having said that you can get most diesels to end up in LOS if you really really hammer it)

Since I cleaned the boost sensor the car runs beautifully - I thought a good additive may help it stay that way. I think the likes of stp/redex offer very little benefit.I thought I would see if this does anything because even EGR removal on the car is not for the feint hearted.
