Another vote for Bacho. I bought a 1/2 in deep impact set and they are absoloutley spot on.

Shopping about on line can pay off too. A few years back I managed to get a Facom 3/8 set for £50 something. Quite a basic set as it just came with ratchet, sockets 8 - 22mm and extension.

1/4 inch Halfords pro sets are quite good vfm when on offer. Ratchet is quite nice.

Got a small Bahco 3/8" set for one of the cars. Quite handy:e06be3b4daf1aaf8c8a953b94a10f294.jpgIrimo version exactly the same:irimo_34pc.jpgYes, King Dick still available: http://www.kingdicktools.co.uk/

Exactly the same and this little lot cost me £60 coming up for ten years ago now, I am not exactly scared to stick scaffy pipe on the end of them either and work them hard, the quarter set gets used pretty much all the time.

Teng, Snap-on, Facom and Halfords stuff all has lifetime warranty on most of their ranges.

Just remember that this is worth the square root of sod all if you leave sockets underneath bonnets.  :-D

Snap-on stuff also has a habit of sprouting legs and making a bid for freedom.

Bahco and Irimo both owned by Snap on.

I'm pleased with the Beta Tools tools I've bought on occasion.

That's good to know, you can't always be sure if things that look the same really are.

I didn't have much confidence in them for the price to be honest and the fact I bought them from the back of a van didn't help either but they have been good so far, are the bahco ones made in Sweden ?

Wait until you lose black sockets in an engine bay on a dark night, too.

I've avoided that so far, they're quite easy to spot when they perch themselves on a rusty subframe.

I believe that Bahco are owned by SnapOn, and manufacture some things for them.

SnapOn scares me because the same I paid for a big Halfords set will get you a tiny box with about 8 sockets and a ratchet, if that.
