G'day

My dad is keen on procuring a Skoda Yeti (budget 11 bags).

He is up in the Highlands and has seen a couple for sale in Arnie's in Inverness for that sort of budget. He has zero interest in cars and if I was still living in Scotland, I would have happily sourced something suitable.

I have two questions (1) from my quick look on the AC website, the suitable stock he has in Inverness seems very expensive compared to similar in his branches in the Central Belt. If he saw one he liked for sale down there, would AC normally bring it up for him to see or would it be a case of them only doing that if he had agreed to buy it? (2) anyone with experience running a Yeti or indeed anyone who can offer any pearls of wisdom re buying one?

Cheers

When I lived in Inverness and wanted an Astra Coupe I came back home to Falkirk to buy one. At the time a lot of people I knew did the same.

I went after a Toyota Land Cruiser the other week from Arnold Shark.  The car didn't exist, despite their website stating the deal applied to every Toyota franchise on their books.  They're not stopped pestering me since.

If you want a Skoda from a reputable dealer than there are two I'd trust; Silbury Skoda and Pulman Skoda. Its not Jockland, but its close.

There's some really cheap lease deals for these at the moment, might be another option for him.

Arnold will move cars of that value between franchises, you might be charged though, it all depends whether the Inverness branch send one of their drivers down or whether they pass it to Arnold Clarks Transport division to move the car, they charge the branch and thus the branch passes on the charge to the customer, obviously you can bargain with them to move the charge. They will also likely make you sign a contract saying you will buy the car pending viewing it if they have gone to the trouble of moving it up. The only good thing I could ever say about Arnie is if the car is a dog the Inverness branch themselves will send it straight back to where it came from because they'll realise you aren't buying it and not will anyone else so they won't want to be lumbered with it. Your other option is to do a deal over the phone with a branch in the Central Belt but get the handover done at a local branch. This happened a lot, we would sell cars from our Paisley branch to customers in Aberdeen and so on, one of our drivers would drive the car up to the Aberdeen branch and come back down the road, the Aberdeen branch would do the handover as if you'd bought the car from there even though it was our deal.

I'd try and look at the individual branch stock on their websites at Linwood Seat/Skoda and Edinburgh Seafield Peugeot/Seat/Skoda as they are the other 2 of Arnold's 3 Skoda franchises, so will have the best choice.

HOWEVER, my advice would be to give Arnies a wide berth and give Ingram Skoda in Ayr a call, their reputation is impeccable, and I can vouch for it having used their Ayr VW dealership a few times, total opposite of AC, will do you a good deal, maybe not as cheap a car as AC but you know it will be in excellent condition, well looked after, will have service history, spare keys won't be missing, properly serviced, Kerbed wheels sorted etc and it'll also likely come with a Skoda Approved Used Car warranty that Arnies don't participate in. They will also probably be able to have the car delivered to you in the Highlands, their Facebook page has quite a few posts about cars being delivered hundreds of miles away or to customers from the Western Isles, Dundee, Perth, Various places down south. Seriously give them a call before you do anything else. I believe they've won awards for customer care.

I had a 11 plate 2.0 diesel for a few months, I really liked it , comfortable, decent on fuel , nippy enough, great driving position , had 100k on it and drove like 30k , all the back seats come out so its like a van , plenty of equipment

I had a golf with the 1.2 petrol engine in but they suffer camchain stretch so can be a bit rattly , my wife loved driving it, women like the high position for some reason

I'd have another
