Sounds like it's now a habitat for waifs and strays. Having said that, it could be a compact and bijou* Airbnb by now.

What a coincidence, I was thinking about this beast the other day as it's deffo MOT exempt now, although as it was registered May 81 I think it has to wait till next April to be tax exempt?

DVLA checker says it's on a SORN and MOT expired rather than not required/no info/whatever it says when an exemption is put on it, @LightBulbFun will know.

Yeah its MOT exempt now

but not yet eligable for the NIL Rate Historic Vehicle taxation class (as that rolls around every financial year, where as the MOT exemption kicks in the moment the vehicle turns 40, so you can have scenarios where you need to pay for tax but its MOT exempt, hence the V112 to take the place of an MOT certificate)

so some brave shitter can buy it tax it and drive it home on some epic collection caper without any* worry in the world...

*well ignoring the fact the car does still have to be road legal but pfft when have such minor details stopped an epic collection caper

I don't think anyone is planning to try and buy it, I just wondered what the DVLA MOT checker would change to if the owner decided to drag it out the field when it's tax exempt - would it say taxed and MOT: no info?

indeed it would

where as a vehicle thats not yet exempt will say "No details held by DVLA" in the MOT status box if there is no MOT data available

"No results returned" is what is returned by the DVLA checker when an exempt vehicle has no current MOT or no MOT data available

its worth noting that said vehicle does not actually have be in the Historic Vehicle taxation class for this to be displayed, it only has to be eligible for it, so if its eligible for it then thats what will be displayed

take for example these 2 cars, one registered on the 31st of December 1980, the other 12th Jan 1981 which is just after the current cut off point for Historic vehicle tax eligibility and note the different MOT status's returned

So, this old thing is well within the territory of MOT exemption now.

Anyone made an offer yet?

Man, I got so excited when I saw this thread had been bumped.

I do check the reg periodically as I was sure it might see the road again once MOT exempt but it's stubbornly on SORN and not on the road as far as I can see.

Anyone in the area who can swing by the pictured garden for a discreet butchers?

It’s one of life’s great mysteries this squiffy Cortina, theoretically it could run again but it depends on whether the owner had the wherewithal to do it. If you managed to convince him to sell it you, would you actually put it on the road?

Given the 2-3 years in a field I reckon the odds are against it, given the underside was already made of just underseal and hope it's fairly unlikely it will come back out the field in one piece.

I think it's just morbid curiosity with this old snotter. The owner clearly liked it enough to scrape it through numerous Mots despite the fact the testers would blatantly have been urging him to JFSI.

There's clearly a story with it.

Well either that, or the owner is completely unhinged.

Bumped because it has been mentioned elsewhere. It's still on SORN, I wonder what state its in now?
