As above, really... took this in px, 1.9td 306, goes pretty bloody well but I'm not sure if it's Veg friendly. Just wondered if any of you knowledgeable types could say yea or nay??

Prince of darkness. Not veg friendly.

Thought as much...oh well.

It is actually a very sweet thing, couple of dents as seen in the picture and short MOT but other than that, it's a straight old bus. Even got half leather in mint condition, a walnut dash and half a tank of diesel! Oh, and 14 stamps in the book too!

Think I'll bung it in for a test and throw it to the wolves on the bay.

It actually owes me around £300 on paper...with 12 months ticket, it'll go on the advert at £495 and we'll see what happens. Can't see it needing much for an MOT...mainly straight passes or a few daft advisories for the last few years.

The ZX estate of many shiters has done about 14000 miles in the last year on 50/50 veg/diesel...

Well, I started the thing this morning and 15 minutes later, once the smoke had cleared, I found my way back to the workshop.

As nice as it is, EMR is currently paying £95/ton mixed and the alloys are £1.08/kg so it's fate is looking somewhat sealed...

The Lucas pump is fine if you're not attempting to run the engine on strong veg mixes.

Likely this has been answered somewhere else, but I'd have to go searching, so might as well ask again now

I have XUD7 TD Lucas CAV in my Rover 418

What percentage of mix gets me in trouble?  Was used to 50% on Bosch in my XM.  Thanks.

50/50 mix is probably about right as M.coli said.

I've been running some overly strong mixes in my Lucas pumped Polo and got away with 8000 miles on 100% oil in a 218D I had years ago before I could tell the difference between a Lucas and a Bosch pump.

At 50-50 I'd watch the revs even after everything's fully warmed through, unless summer weather, although it depends on the oil itself. Well polished and dried rapeseed pours very easily at 6C when soya is starting to resemble honey.

I never had an Epic fail even at minus-odd on 70% veg, but that was with an old boiler heat exchanger in the lines and being careful not to rev much over 1500 until the coolant was warmed up a bit.

The higher the miles, if that does mean more wear on the pump, the less likely there is to be borkage.

Is this going in for a test, or is it going straight over the bridge?  The ZX is in for test on Thursday...

As it stands, the bridge is calling as I'm desperate for space. Having said that, logistics dictate it'll be Friday before I get anywhere near it as this week is currently running away with itself.

If it passes, surely it's worth more than scrap?

Probably, yes. The problem is, I'm a VAT registered car dealer so if I sell it on 'officially' then I need to warranty it by law for three months minimum, pay VAT on the margin of profit, valet it etc etc

As it stands, with the cat, alloys, 25 litres of diesel, battery and weight of the shell, it'll fetch maybe £200...as opposed to jumping through the above hoops and having it sat in the yard for a couple of weeks to pull maybe £300 if I'm lucky. Then, if it goes pop for any reason in two months and three weeks, I end up giving a refund and we are back to square one.

The only way dealers make any money selling sub £500 stuff these days is by flying decidedly under the radar and that's not my style.

Don't get me wrong...being a Shiter at heart, it destroys me sometimes scrapping stuff like this but unfortunately, this job keeps a roof other our heads and pays for the roffle tickets and the shonky old Mercs I keep buying from RichardK.

As they say, you can't save them all..... :-(

Does it have no MOT as it stands?

Has the value of scrap gone back to the levels it was at 4 or 5 years ago? £200 seems optimistic .
