Leaping Cat and all that!

Despite having a copious amount of daylight during the day to start fault finding the trac and aircon issues, naturally i wait till its dark to begin!

Chucked the widi obd2 dongle on the jag and loaded up torque. Straight away it throws a P1111 code and torque app displayed "powertrain fault pending". Bugger! So i decieed to clear the code and rescan which then displayed p1000 "powertrain fault pending". Bugger again!

However, googling the codes puts mind mind instantly at rest. It transpires that p1111 is displayed when someone scans the ecu to say the scan has taken place. P1000 is displayed to say ecu is ready for scan.

Youtube video in link below explains all

Anyways have some evening growling kitteh pics

The closest was my 2.5td safrane but alas a blown turbo and bodywork maladies that would make a car pushed off a cliff look mint, meant that it was sent to autoshite heaven.

cor! Revelation - never knew they did cars with sofim turbo engines. now I will look out for these.

We truly are in another golden age of the cheap Jag. Lets enjoy it while it lasts.

Utterly excellent. I'm even starting to like that design of wheels.

However, that V8 badge really needs to be carefully removed and remounted on a toilet cistern somewhere.

Your wish is my command! :)

Somebody has put a gopping V8 badge on the back of mine at some stage. How do you get them off without damaging the paint?

Posted

They're only attached with rubbish sticky pads. I just pulled them off with my fingers. If yours are attached more firmly then probably a kettle of boiling water over them should soften the pads up enough for you to be able to pull them off.

I will never, ever understand, the reasons why previous owners attach extra V8 badges. They may as well scratch a cock and balls in to the paint and be done with it.

The whole point* of the XJ8 are those discreet V8 badges on the B pillars. That's all it needs.

Allegedly ('cos I've never tried it) - dental floss.

Gr9 work! I bet that flushes like a bitch now, and makes a lovely burbling growl while doing so.

The interior trim and on that is lovely. My sport has the black dash and porridge colour leather.

Sweet.

BECOZ V8S ARE FOUR WINNERS or some shit like that, and it lets the plebeian classes know you're a superior* person** and you have more* money than them because your car has a V8.

Or some weird superiority complex shit like that.

A few things i've tried to ignore since i've had the Jag is the steering wobble between 30-40mph and 75mph+ and a slight self steering sensation from the rear. So last weekend enough was enough and i took it to my local Protyre branch in central Bristol.

Had all four tyres balanced and all were wayyyyyy out. The fronts have got brand new ditch finders on (fitted before i bought the car) and the rears have Pirelli P6000 fitted with good tread. Guy doubg balancing said that the P6000 have a tendancy to develop flat spots if left for any length of time, which i guess is exacerbated by the sheer weight of the car. Both of the Pirelli's on mine were found to have small flat spots. I was advised to see what they were like after having them balanced and if atill bad then get new tyres.

I can report there is definitely a marked improvement in handling although there is still a small amount of shake at 60mph+

They didn't have time to get the Jag up on the ramp to check the bushes on the a-frame on the rear suspension, but judging by the condition of the bushes i could see with rear wheels off, i may be investing in a rear polybush kit soon!

Sharp eyes may notice 'expert' temporary repair to drivers wing covering the hole in it!

Be a bit wary of polybushes. Jaguars were always designed to use rubber. Those in the know reckon rubber is better in most places.

I can second this through experience. Using poly transfers diff vibration to the chasseur which leaves you with what sounds like constant WB noise.

Use good rubber and it will last the remaining life of the car - and be cheaper than poly!
