Got the shakes

Recommended Posts

Since I've changed the engine mounts and gearbox mounts on the Avenger, it has developed the shakes. When at idle, the engine shakes and sends vibrations through the car. I reckon the problem was there before, its just the old soggy mounts were absorbing most of it previously. Any ideas? Just an old car thing? Or something more serious? Thanks in advance for your help!

Regular or irregular shaking? Possibly points gap. Faulty condensor. Plug down. Valve seating fault/bent stem. Bent con rod! Check the obvious things before delving to deeply. It might be something simple. Mixture set correctly? Is it a Stromberg Carburettor? Is the diaphragm split? That kind of daft thing....

Electronic ignition so cant be points. :DI've got a diaphragm on order, and I reckon its running lean.

Could you have knocked off a vaccum pipe?

Could be a leaky inlet manifold gasket. That would make it shake at idle and smooth out when you rev.

Could be. There appears to be some sort of sealant around the joins! Last owner was a bit of a bodger from what I can tell so far!

Check out the tap plumbed into the heating system!
