2002 Fiat Punto, 100k miles, 1 week of test, needs new Cat manifold

Well the MOT was booked for tomorrow, but on my way home today, she suddenly started roaring like a tank! At the side of the road, two old ladies started crying: "The invasion's on! The Germans have arrived!"

The point is, the CAT has come away from the manifold, and might be repairable. If not, used ones are available for £30 upwards. I can't be arsed, it's never really grown on me this!  On the plus side, she's had a new gearbox and thermostat in the last year, and seems worth saving.

I'm guessing this would be a suitable donor for a certain panda? ;)

Probably the more sensible choice. I have been very tempted to buy a cheap ECU, virgin it and then make you a derisory offer ;)

The CAT manifold splint on my OH's Stilo (same size engine but the 16V version), it welded up no problem

I've found with cast iron manifolds, you get them welded up and it often cracks again. Breakers might yield a replacement. That's what I did last time. The first time I did one a replacement manifold was unobtainium.

I remember helping my dad replace the manifold / cat on one of these a few years back. It was an 02 reg 1.2 5 door too (but it was that nice dark red they do).

It was a fairly nice job to do, plenty of space to work in the engine bay. Bloody awful car otherwise, though. :D
