He has jus had a large bill for police recovering bike, says if it is not collected within 14 days they will crush it.

Gone with White Dalton solicitors, hopefully they will sort this.

He had an insurance renewal quote for £180 about a week ago, just had an updated one for £370.

It expires in a few weeks.

He says he is going to renew it,told him that he should not renew it as he no longer has bike.He reckons that if he doesnt keep up insurance they wont pay out his claim.

I give up.

If he was not at fault he can reclaim ANY reasonable costs. An increase in premium due to the incident would definitely fall into that category. Just make sure he keeps receipts for any expenses such as taxis to hospital etc etc.

I had all these questions when I was in a similar position.   Its to do with making sure that the solicitor has full knowledge of the claimant's financial situation in order to properly assess true cost of lost earnings etc. if these become elements of a claim for damages etc.

Regarding the insurance policy - not clear if he still owns bike or has relinquished it to the polis....In any case it should not affect any claim whether or not he currently has a policy with the Insurers.   You probably realise this but cannot convince him.   Think it might be unwise to re-insure if he no longer actually owns it, though.

Good luck with it - you need to be thoroughly honest and open with the solicitors, though.....

I wouldn't re insure as the bike is out of his custody and control, the only thing I can see is that if he has a loan bike they may want him to have a policy running on it still

Yes, the employment details are needed to calculate the potential loss of earnings for the accident.

I'd ask the solicitors the position of keeping the insurance policy.

I don't believe he needs to reinsure it, they should still pay out as he was insured at the time of the accident, regardless of how long it takes.

If it was being paid in installments then you would need to either keep them up or pay the policy in full. I think once a claim is made there is no pro rata refund possible.
