2005 Subaru Legacy Blower Motor

Fathernaut has a 2005 Subaru Legacy Outback, and some water got down behind the scuttle panel and borked the bearings in the blower motor. He demonstrated to me yesterday the lovely* noise the blower motor now makes.

He's been having trouble sourcing a replacement at a price that isn't £DERP, does anybody know where we could get one? There must be some specialist Subaru breakers about, Shirley?

I know, I know, it's not proper shite as it's too new. I thought it was worth asking though.

Take the motor apart, if the bearings are the porous-bronze sleeve type, just clean them up and soak the bronze bits in thin oil for a day or so.

Having just (re) done this on the Saab, I can confirm that stripping down the motor, greasing the offending bearing and re-assembly will restore quiet operation. In my case I used regular multi-purpose grease last time and it quietened it down for about 6 months. I have just re-done it and tried copper grease this time to see how it compares.

The supposedly '4 hour' job on the Saab was dispatched in 45 minutes this time around including being helped* by the cat.

Saab blower motors are stubbornly priced at £180 exchange everywhere I look (even amazon, I checked) so it gets greased twice a year now at a cost of about 0.0000000001p plus 45 minutes of my valuable time.
