Mercedes out---Vauxhall Omega in!

Well it's been nearly a month since I sold my Mercedes saloon to make way for some sort of estate car and in true sods law fashion there were no decent estate cars to be had anywhere. So the scruffy Saab has been doing extra duties and is due to roll over to 52,000 miles soon so I made a concerted effort to find an estate car this week.

The bay of e turned up this nice old barge not many miles away---

2001 Omega 2.2 petrol CDX auto estate in a sort of metallic gold colour with black leather interior,90,000 miles and 9months MOT.

The vendor told me it had an exhaust blow but when I viewed it but I couldn't decide where it was blowing from as it wasn't too noisy anyway. I made an offer but he declined it so I thought no more of it and came home.

About midday he rang and said he would accept my offer if I could collect it that day,so a hurried train journey and within 3 hours it was on my drive. No collection thread as it all happened so quick!

The next day I took it to my tame mechanics and they informed me it was ok but needed the exhaust replacing from the cat back and that the exhaust manifold was cracked as well.

I managed to source the exhaust system from a local factor and a secondhand manifold from a local Vauxhall only breaker. It is now languishing at the garage waiting for everything to be bolted on.

It's a lovely old barge and I am looking forward to using it and giving the scruffy Saab some rest.

I shall post some better pictures when I get the car back home later this week.

Great barge. Also, you can tell people you have a VX220 engine (or is that the chain driven one?)

Do you know of Ashford Vauxhall Spares in High Halden?

Yes,that's where I got the manifold from, but he is in the process of closing down so I got it just in time.

I live in Tenterden, 10 mins away. Real shame he's packing it in- all parts were perfectly removed & stored well.

The Omega should serve you well. The 2.2 engine is strong as is the autobox, but I would recommend a fluid change for that when you can.

Time for another shite meet I think, as I'd love to see this! Omegas are currently on my shopping list.

Does it have cruise control.  If not Omegod of this Parish, has the facilities to program one in for you, provided you have the switch.

Plenty of them coming into the fold recently.  Nice cars, my dad had a dark blue W reg 2.2 CD Auto.

There is a lovely W reg Elite near me.

There is currently a nice blue saloon in CD flavour for £400 near Dicky's house.  Passed it today.  Face lifted n'all  8)
