pshome Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Ordinateur du bord says that we did km's since yday morning, at an average speed of km/h using liters of fuel for every 100 km. That is quite reasonable, considering that top speed was sometimes at or above where the needle would go. Since the last round of Weber adjustments, our Tagora SX runs like hell, revs up to 6500 easily which translates to 230 km/h giving us a big grin whenever an Audi, BMW or similar modern engineering failure gives up following us; pure driving fun. So where did we go?The french have a large "Bourse" this weekend in Lipsheim, a few miles south of Strasbourg. Not only plenty of parts for sale there for french quality cars of the past, but also many friends going ther, always nice to meet and chat in person. Added bonus: a 505 Turbo for sale 150 km north, reasonably priced and definitely worth to have a look, if only to get a feeling how a proper 505 turbo drives. Remember there was a 505 collection failure http://autoshite.com/topic/24340-non-collection-thread-505-turbo-injection/ in April. So we start in Munich at 6am and just follow the signs to arrive at destination at 10:00.Parking already starts filling with a lot of real nice cars: The market is big, i mean really big several fields filled with stuff, 90% french.and you find about everything you need, i dont think there was a single 504 piece not for sale, even for the CC's. Simca, Renault, Citroen bits plenty.. used new, whatever you like and all priced ok. Need a project? or a complete car? Campers welcome and the band plays, country music .. With time, the fields fill up and visitor cars get a bit mixed up with the selling stands... who cares, we are in France after all. something for Mr. JunkmanMobility for every ageWe spent the afternoom with friends there and left when most everybody was gone, ISIS watching us?What a perfect day!Next morning we went to see a Peugeot for sale not far from there. That one did drive the way a 505 Turbo is supposed to drive.Generator failed during test drive... otherwise nice car. This may end up in a collection, or maybe not. We will see. worldofceri, Asimo, Fat_Pirate and 39 others 42
SiC Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 You'd be looking at a long ban or possibly prison time if you did that speed on the motorway in the UK!
pshome Posted September 25, 2016 Author Posted September 25, 2016 That will certainly change after brexit. If i understand Boris correctly, it' s all about "taking back control". Certainly this includes full control over your accelerator. pickup57, Sigmund Fraud, NorfolkNWeigh and 4 others 7

pshome Posted September 25, 2016 Author Posted September 25, 2016 I would think full control of your brakes would be part of the deal, but admitted: with brexit politicians you never know...
SiC Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Given Theresa May is in charge, after brexit, all our cars will have microphones piped directly into GCHQ :mrgreenn: (Not as far fetched as it sounds, given that E-Call is going to be mandated in the EU and probably be a requirement for driving in Europe anyway...) tooSavvy 1
tooSavvy Posted September 25, 2016 Posted September 25, 2016 Big B in your car....?? Que?? GerryA showed the worlds meeja a whole 'rats nest' of listening kit, his 'minders' stripped out of a car he was supplied with for Peace Talks. Having listened to GA on the radio, he could bore a wooden rocking horse to sleep, I feel it for the GCHQ minders....... TS
pshome Posted September 25, 2016 Author Posted September 25, 2016 GCHQ will certainly have a jolly good time listening to us two chaps chasing cars off the inner lane in a 33 year old Tagora. - See that JAG?- No way- Try!- yeehaw.. he went out of steam at 195- now the black Cayenne! I know 'fori' generally frown upon ceaseless references to "... on a private test track ;<)" in quips re: reckless speeding...... So I will say less..... suffice, though, I cleared the outer lane of the A1, from Newcastle to Wetherby - for a job interview - in Mr Savvy, and the best word to rhyme would be "good going, old SON!" Breezing past Bmerrs & Aldis was.... surreal.... I shall NOT be doing it again in this lifetime! TS

pshome Posted September 27, 2016 Author Posted September 27, 2016 Pedant/ that's in km/h /pedant So you say i can drive as fast as i like in the U(K/S) because the speed limit is in miles and i drive in km/h? mat_the_cat, Junkman, Inspector Morose and 1 other 4
cort1977 Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 Definitely, if pulled over by the police just say 'my speedometer is marked in km/h' and they will let you go with a cheery* wave. pshome 1
smellypoo Posted September 27, 2016 Posted September 27, 2016 Definitely, if pulled over by the police just say 'my speedometer is marked in km/h' and they will let you go with a cheery* wave. I've probably missed something here - but isn't 100 km/h equivalent to about 62 mph? Therefore, the speedo reading 130 km/h only equates to 80-ish mph. So if the limit is displayed in mph and you drive at the same number in km/h, you'd be going slower than the limit, not faster. apologies if there was sarcasm/lolz that I didn't get!
