Ill be doing the same when I can afford it on my £250 car. I drive it 55 miles a day, most of that on the m40, and at the tiny amount extra to part worns vs the length of time they last its an easy choice imo.

when the tread starts getting low on mine I start watching black circles and the like daily.

I'll only buy "wet grip A" rated tyres, and if you scan it daily you'll pick up an offer on branded types soon enough. I trust the known brands' self tested and awarded rating more than those less established names. This may be foolish.

Never paid more than £60 quid a corner, fully fitted yet. Last 3 sets purchased were Dunlop, Avon and Michelin. All wet grip A.

I never used to be a tyre snob and for many years used partworns or nip nip slidemasters on cars and bikes, but with internet magic sometimes pushing the prices to cost, it's just not worth it imho, especially as poor tyres can (if you're unlucky) quickly cost you way more money than you saved.

When you want them, really really really want them to work you'll be glad you didn't save the fiver a corner. (And any old nail of a car or bike feels good with new shoes.)

I'm lucky, I've handled tyres for years and if something either looks right or feels right, then they are right.  I've also driven cars with worn OE tyres immediately followed by new ditchfinders.  The difference in feel is staggering.  The vast majority of humans will never experience this on a daily basis.

That's what I'm doing, and as long as it doesn't screw us over for the month with food etc, when the dc25 I have in now goes back together I'll have enough for 2 (the rears are probably illegal). I'm looking at National tyres though as they have ok tyres at ok prices (ill dig the link out in a sec) and it's a fitted price. I tyreleadered the ones on the zx and whilst they were a bargain, by the time I had them fitted for a tenner a corner there wasn't much in it

Brand new 240i for a grand and a half extra, but for that you get the 300+ bhp straight-6, rwd and a manual gearbox. Also I spec'd a brown interior with fake wood.

If you're going to be a new Beemer tosser at least go all out, none of this wanky "I can't believe it's not a SUV shit".

. Add cruise control and a set of decent speakers (Corden HardOn or something) and it would be just shy of forty grand.

And this is why that bollocks about BMWs and the like "holding their value" is such utter shit.  Almost no-one ever pays list (or less) because they add something on.  I bet if residual value calcs actually compared the full invoice costs to the second hand values, BMWs would be no better than anything else.

These are the ones

Doubt they will be too shit, they only have 90bhp to contain, and I don't drive like it's on fire 97% of the time. Obv they will go on the front, and the OK fronts will go on the rear, if their quiet when I go I'll see if they will swap them round for me whilst it's on the lift, otherwise I'll come home and do it.

But like I said, only if we can afford it. Picking up a free clean DC04 on Monday, I have about £70 worth of shit in the shed once I get off my arse and refurb it, and following several tags in posts on facebook groups 9 people liked my repair page so it shouldnt be long until I can afford them.

Both cars need an MOT in the next 2 months though, the Meriva should pass OK, I bought a second hand battery tray the other day as the clamp is buggared and I;ve been meaning to get rid of the bits of wood wedging the battery in, and I have a replacement dummy rear fog light that Amy smashed, the Xantia I want to turn the fueling down so it doesnt piss so much black smoke out, and the 2 new tyres should hopefully make it look like I care about it, so fingers crossed.

And all that will probably still not amount to a months payment for any of the moderns shown in this thread, and I'll probably be putting 190% more effort into it than any of the owners of said new financed cars, and tbh what I write above isn't tricky or taxing, I just lack time or motivation! (both kids throwing up, and I sit here now with a hurty feeling in my tummy that I hope is just a massive shit on the way)

But then Tyreleader do have these

We had a full set on the Meriva when we first got it (one is left on the rear, needs replacing next year) and they were fine, and will be a tenner a tyre cheaper even fitted. But then I need to get the tyres, then go and chat up my local tyre place and apologise for not buying the tyres through them, leave them the car all day so they can do it when they get quiet etc...

FFS, this isn't a tyre thread, shut up sam...

cheaper on black circles- 47 ea. fitted.  :)

or yokohama for 50p less a corner.

As long as they're round and black. A bald tyre is worse than a new not great tyre.

Winters coming - get it done eh.  :-)

Oooh interesting, will scope that out.

Yep, deffo want them done by winter, although if it does get crap the M40 will be shut at stokenchurch and I'll be working from home so it's not super critical. It rained really hard on friday morning and I definatly subconciously drove slower than in the dry, in the ZX with rainexperts all round I had to slow down many a time as I pressed on not noticing the wet...

When I had the XM I got part worn winters fitted all round and felt proper ready for a shit winter...which never arrived so I looked like a twat in summer driving around on winters

I can get Rovelo's for £29 a corner, even they would probably do! But I like a treat

I just bought new tyres (have I mentioned that in any of my rambling rants? Of course I have!) Michelins. I are seriously posh now 'cos I have got good tyres.

Seriously, I keep looking at them and smiling! I've always had a bit of a thing for tyres, suppose it comes from years of bike riding where tyres are VERY important. But, I am the only person I know that can get excited about spending a load of money on Michelin tyres.

Michelin. Even the name looks good. Shame they're French 'cos I hate the garlic munching bastards! Well, I don't really but I just thought I'd say it because insane and not slept and my tyres look really good. Such a shame they have to go on the road 'cos they get all dirty and people think you are even more insane if you go out in the rain and clean between the treads with a toothbrush on your new Michelin tyres!

:)  :)  :)

I was behind one of those X1 s yesterday and it looked a tad silly: tall and really skinny. I didn't know what it was so had to get close (trusting my Michelin tyres to grip superbly if the driver ahead braked sharply) so I could read the badge. Didn't look like a 'quality' product to me....

My ZT has continental runflats on it courtesy of the previous owner. They dont look that old. One of them got an egg in the sidewall for god knows what reason... havent hit any potholes as far as i know.

I opted for a barum which ive found to be pretty good in the past. I must admit i normally do just go for the cheap chinese jobs but with this being a 2 ton car i figured i better at least take the second cheapest 😂

Bloke in the tyre fitters earlier paid £65 for his "tyre" then jumped in his Range Rover Spurt. My tame tyre fitter conceded that the tyre was shite but "I have to sell what people want to buy".

As for the above X1, yes nice car, nice colour, nice specification. But not 37k nice.

My local back street place has a reputation for not selling shit tyres. He does however offer brands which I've never heard off, and I've let him fit pairs to the front of the Bini and the astra and been pleasantly surprised in the wet especially.

A friend of mine likes his cars to the extent that he carried on working into his 70s and declined to move from a flat-fronted terraced house (with no parking!) in favour of being able to afford "what I want".    Unfortunately, "what I want" has long since declined into a series of financed brand new Fords, often changed at nine month intervals.

He shredded a tyre last year in his third Kuga.   Despite owning two previously he failed to realise there was no adequate spare and soon had to think about a proper tyre.   Daft bugger went and bought a secondhand mismtached tyre to put on his road wheel which kind of illustrates the pleasure and pride in ownership these days.   He would never have done that in the days when he actually bought, owned and looked after Cortina Carousels and XR2 Fiestas.....

My dad taught me 'you don't buy cheap shoes and you don't buy a cheap bed, cos if you're not in one, you're in the other!'

The same applies to tyres, especially when your kids are in the back.

I recently bought 2 pirelli scorpions @£40 a piece with 7mm on each. Retail £100 each. Why? Cos they'd had a puncture repair! Some people actually bin tyres cos they've had a puncture!

If I had 37 bags to spend, would I fuck buy that BM.
