Van borrow - Edinburgh

Recommended Posts

Posted

I am currently trying to sell a flat in Edinburgh. Been on the market since April.

Estate agents reckon we need to put white goods, a bed and a sofa in the flat to help sell it.

Current intention is to hire a transit here for the weekend. Before I do that are there any shiters got a van I could borrow for a day?

More than happy to put the wonga in your pocket rather than hire place.

If you wanted to drive it from Cheltenham you can borrow my shonky Trafic but that'll probably work out more espensive than hiring!

On the upside there's a cracking local appliance shop that does cheap refurbished white goods

I've a customer in Edinburgh who does that sort of thing. He'll get them and install them for you.

Ended up hiring a van for 24 hrs to do the job. 16 plate Transit. I don't think I have ever driven something so new.

Over 580 miles it returned 28.9mpg. so easy to drive.

Will be looking forward to purchasing one from Cavcraft Motors in 20 years time.

Damn, I was just about to suggest that many places like Costco and B&Q have a Hertz hourly rate van available - you register, get a keyfob and just tap in and out when you need it. Works out quite well if you're staying local and just doing a quick run.

This was £70 for a day, so not too bad. Just meant was quite a long day.

Those hourly rate Hertz things are about £15/hour I think.

Also they're usually SWB Transit Customs.

One near here at B&Q is a massive LWB high roof transit. Utterly fucked looking with dents in every panel

They pay for fuel which is quite good, there's a fuel card in the van - but you pay 30p per mile plus the rental cost of £14/hr.

Like I say, good if you're just pick it up -> grab something locally -> drop it at home -> dump the van, but as they're charging £70 a day same as that transit ^^^ cost, 30mpg works out to be something like 20p per mile so there's definitely a cost for convenience.
