The marvelous Audi i5 engine is 40 years old today! :)

Happy Birthday to the soundtrack of Welsh Forest stages in the 1980's!

Very charismatic and strong engines, from when Audi made good, honest cars.

Best in a 90 or Coupe, where the engine isn't so remote - I remember driving an early 80s coupe with the 1.9 and it astonished me, especially amid all the late 80s Fords I was driving at the time.

Some good sounds:

This has inspired me to move some shite around to use my 100 to go to the tip.

Being a 2.0 3 speed auto it sure does SOUND fast.....

If one of the two prevaricators turns up with some cash this week, I know I'm going to regret getting rid of this not the e34.

A great engine, which of course inspired Volvo to adopt 5-cylinder engines in their bigger models  :)

That Quattro Sport at full chat sounds precisely, like exactly the same as a V10 BMW M5.

Must be a multiples of five thing.

Absolutely brilliant and charismatic sounding engines. It's a real shame that there is nothing left like it now as most manufacturers have their ecoteks and slowmotion engines wowing the masses.

Even the diesels sound good, I manage to average the same or better mpg in a C4 A6 as an Octavia TDi with its god-fearing inline four, the engine which has come to dominate the motor car, sadly. Yet the A6 goes like the wind, swinging the needle effortlessly past the magic 100. I think I prefer an old Audi 5 to a V6, even ignoring the benefits of its simplicity and economy.

PS is this the 'evry' mod?
