Sold some chod, bought something less chod..

I'd posted this before, but I think it's been lost and I can't find it on the new forum link either.. so lawd knows.

Anyway..

The B3, remember that?, I sold it.. it needed too much after my abuse of it to make it viable so some scene kiddies have bought it to TDI and slam and goodness knows what else.  Good luck to them :)

My MK2 GTI, the one that's a bit rustier than the one I used to have, has too many doors, and just wouldn't have given me the buzz I wanted.. that's gone too, or will have tomorrow hopefully.

Me and the wife decided to buy something sensible, more modern and that could be used daily..

Then we went to Bug Jam for the first time as a couple in a few years, and decided that was a silly idea, that I'll never grow out of my sense of the ridiculous and that I should buy something that makes me and her smile.

We got this.

I removed the stickers, because they're awful, and in honesty, it's a bit too low :)

Other than that, it's great fun, especially for something that's basically a golf.

The odd thing for me about the new Beetle is that I disliked them when they were introduced and for years afterwards, but about a year ago I saw one on the road and thought it was really quite handsome and have liked them ever since.

I recently sold some chod and bought a modern that me and the Mrs could use daily. I sold the 1983 Mercedes w123 and bought a 2003 Citroen c15 van.

I'm pretty much the same.

Didn't much like them (I'm an air cooled fan, not a proper beetle etc), dismissed them and the Mk4 platform as being a big pile of hazards waiting to happen.

Then I had an Octavia for a bit, and I didn't mind that, until someone drove into the back of it and bent it.

Then I bought a MK4 off a mate to help her out, and sold it on, and it wasn't awful.. I mean it wasn't great, but wasn't awful.

Then had a V6 4Motion, that was fun, sounded lovely, but failed to really make me want to keep it.

Figured, as I can live the golf MK4 platform, and the looks had started to grow on me, I may as well give one a go.

Now I actually quite like it.  I mean it's less practical than a golf, and utterly ridiculous looking.. the 2.0 engine isn't the last word in fuel economy or refinement, but it's a pleasant place to be, and it makes me smile, as well as a few other road users.

That's more important to me than a lot of stuff.

I like the way that there's quite a lot of body colour 'metal' on the inside like a proper beetle.

A nice try, the first of the obvious retro motors and a bit of fun.

I can think of much worse stuff to potter about in.

I like 'em. I'd like a bright yellow one. In 1.6 flavour.

I'd imagine they're OK in a Golf sort of way. As for 'fun' though, really?!

They really are quite decent things in their own way....bought a convertible one out of BCA the other week for the better half and I'm really very impressed in how rigid it feels out on the road. Far more so than the 80 Cabriolet that it's replaced. By the way, anyone want a 80 Cabriolet? :-)post-17519-0-11948100-1470088166_thumb.jpeg

Is it very cheap?

It's a 2.6 V6 manual with apparently sought after 8" wide alloys, a full blue leather interior, lowish miles for its age and a fully functioning power hood. Oh, and 12 months MOT which it more or less sailed through. Unfortunately, the back window is completely buggered and there are a few bits of trim that could do with replacing.

The trouble is, it's worth far more as a breaker but it seems a crying shame to go down that route as it's got plenty of potential....I just don't have a use for it. I may stick it on the blue forum alongside my A8 and see if anyone's got anything interesting they want to swap for either or both of them! :-)

Sounds like you've got a late one (Final Edition?) with Ronal Boleros. The wheels are worth a bit 'cause Ronal, and because they only came on special edition cabriolets and A4 quattros.

Window aside it sounds like it'd be semi-decent coin.

Boleros....them's the badgers!!

It's actually a 94ish one but first registered here in '98 so I think it started life in NI as it's on Irish plates.post-17519-0-82989600-1470092378_thumb.jpeg

That's from when I first got it a few years ago but nothing much has changed...the front bumper was cracked and has since been repaired and painted. It's not 100% but it's quite acceptable.

As you say, it's probably only going to go up in value in the near future in the right hands but it's just not my cup of tea. After my old MX5 (ex RichardTK) which I still regret selling even now, no other convertible really measures up :-(
