Urgent part request. Volvo V70 phase 1

I know V70's are pretty thin on the ground on here, but I'll ask anyway.

I need a power window master switch. It's the combination switch for the drivers door.

I need this urgently as one of my rear windows is stuck down. The switch started smoking today and I had to remove it completely.

Please drop me a pm if you have or know of one of these switches for sale.

Thanks in advance.

Cheers Ken.

I'll be giving those a ring in the morning.

All this happened in a car park in Hornchurch. Good job I had a few tools with me, otherwise the car would have had to stay there.

Had to remove half the door panel and take the switch out completely.

Me and Mrs Tet only went out for a Costa.....

No worries mate, best I could offer I'm afraid.

That'll teach you to be extravagant :)

Window now has a black bag and gaffer tape over it.

Good luck with that, those switch packs are a right bugger. NSR window on mine plays up because of it too.

Yeah, I know I've got a bit of a job on my hands to get hold of one.

It's the front right switch that's gone on mine. May strip it down later and see what's gone wrong.

Definitely worth a try, like you say, getting harder to find, and more likely the replacement is half dead too. See also heater control panel.

Did you get hold of one? I've got one you can have.

Fairly sure it works, but I've only tested it  off the  car.

If you pop the offending door card off, the motors on these are only 2 wires. Easiest thing to do is chop the wires (if you have solder and heatshrink!) on one side of the plug, strip back, twist a couple of longer wires on temporarily and you can drive the window up straight off a battery. It'll get you waterproof at least!

Then re-join the wires as original with a bit of heatshrink around them to make sure it doesn't cause any more problems later.

Thank you Mr Warninglight.

With a bit of luck and a following wind, there should be no need to chop any wires.

Help is at hand.

Thanks again mate.

There's the infamous VOLVO GRAVEYARDâ„¢ near me in St Neots.  They break these things for fun you know.

If you get stuck on any bits, call them up.  Their customer service leaves a little bit to be desired, but it's much improved on 20 odd years ago (!).  If they have what you need but won't ship - let me know and I'll collect and organise courier.

Thanks Mr Bornite.

Would that be Lakes?

I know what you mean about customer service. I sent them a parts request once. Never did hear back.

Yes. Lakes.

That's nothing.  A friend of mine went to get something about 20 years ago from there.  He dared to haggle (actually, he asked if he could get a deal on 2 pieces) and the old boy started stamping on the thing - threw it in the river and said he'd rather do THAT than sell at such a stupid price.

!

They were featured on Car SOS a year or so ago and the bloke who was filmed also came across badly.

Sometimes though, needs must eh?

I don't think me and those staff would get on very well.

I think I need to set up a Volvo and Land Rover graveyard with proper service...

I'd even feel justified in calling it 'Lakes' given my location...

Jolly good idea.

If he'd done that in front of me I'd have laughed, said I didn't actually need that bit but was going to buy it anyway and here have the other bit to jump on as I have changed my mind. Have a lovely day.
