Jim Bell Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 Today I will mostly be having a drive out into the distant greenery to collect a car "that's been sat" from a man I've never met, who is then immediately emigrating. The brakes are binding, the battery is flat but most crucially: The price is right! It's nothing special. Or interesting. Just another Sunday on Autoshite. CGSB, greengartside, spike60 and 7 others 10

Jim Bell Posted June 5, 2016 Author Posted June 5, 2016 Our destination for the day is this very location. http://www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-52731944.html It comes equipped with its own beer garden, stream and the owner is selling up the lot. The lot includes what he describes as "the little car", which has been sat in the barn for a few months. Jen you win barn find. Junkman and DodgyBastard 2
Jim Bell Posted June 5, 2016 Author Posted June 5, 2016 As I have been informed that the brakes are binding and the battery is flat, I will be putting together an actual rescue kit, possibly for the first time ever. It's not a great distance home but the location is all green trees and no 3Gs so calling for the Yellow Fail Van will prove challenging. Also, the nearest petrol station is in Hexham and the fuel light is on. The weather is meant to be nice mind, so spirits are high. eddyramrod, CGSB and Junkman 3
Skizzer Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 Is it the bottom half of an MG Midget, to go with the top half that Billy's just bought? wuvvum, HillmanImp, Jim Bell and 11 others 14
Jim Bell Posted June 5, 2016 Author Posted June 5, 2016 Jump pack to get it started. Shed Oil to keep her going and er strong fabric tape for everything else. Guess I'll include a petrol can, compressor and Aldi socket set for maximum overkill. And wd40. That's probably good for brakes. spike60, eddyramrod, Skizzer and 2 others 5

Jim Bell Posted June 5, 2016 Author Posted June 5, 2016 It's RAC review Blankety Blank! "The 1.3-litre Toyota-sourced engine gamely tries to make a good fist of being a driver's tool, but seems to be fighting a losing battle against a chassis that's not the most inspiring we've ever come across. The engine is loud but willing, and the [bLANK] never feels out of its depth on major roads, and coupled to a slick manual gearchange first impressions are of enormous fun. It will sprint nicely off the line, but the ride is very crashy with firm damping meaning the tiny wheels and skinny tyres have a hard task deploying traction in corners. Punt a front wheel drive [bLANK] into a corner and it will lurch at a rakish angle before picking an inside wheel up, power spinning away impotently until it touches terra firma again. Still, we often criticise new cars for lacking their predecessor's verve and vitality. Here's one with verve to spare. With a punchy engine and stiffened up suspension it makes a viable alternative to the usual VTR/VTS Citroens. Overall the [bLANK] is an odd choice. It's difficult to make a case for any of the new models. It's not a bad car per se, it's just that especially in a turbulent used market, your pound will buy far better. Maybe we should leave this one alone for a year or so and revisit." fotorabia and Junkman 2

skattrd Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 It's RAC review Blankety Blank! "The 1.3-litre Toyota-sourced engine .... That'd better not be a review for a Daihatsu as they make better engines than (parent company) Toyota, so whoever wrote that needs a slap.
skattrd Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 Oh and if it is a Daihatsu with a K3-VE2 motor can I get dibs after you please Mr_Shitpez.They're cracking engines and currently level with K-series 1.4 on my wanted but never owned engines.

I'm happy to be corrected though.
dollywobbler Posted June 5, 2016 Posted June 5, 2016 Nice. Did you pack a hammer for twatting the brakes? Probably sticky sliders at a guess. Twiggy 1

I'm happy to be corrected though. That is wrong, and often quoted. Daihatsu make their own engines, it is not based on the Yaris. It is superior to the Yaris lump.Any idea if it's it the K3-VE or later and more powerful K3-VE2? CGSB, Jim Bell and Lacquer Peel 3
