I will absolutely NOT be doing silly stuff to this car.

 

I have my eye on a tasteful set of wheels, but only so I can save the metric tyres (of which I have 8!)

Wheelz-R-Uz - the restriction in tyre size with any Metro is in the clearance btween the tyre and the rear radius arm/subframe (just as a reminder!).

 

Good luck with this, if you fancy a fruity exhaust note just stick a Peco Red Bullit sized Cherry Bomb on it in place of the rear box, the Red Bullit sounds great so the Cherry Bomb shouldn't be too bad either!

Well, verdict so far? I don't like the auto box and it clunks from the front.

IIRC the Metro has 4. Grease on a regular basis, oh and the odd drop of oil in the dash pot is needed every now and then.

 

Front end clunking - subframe mounts, engine mounts ( these wear and then wreck the exhaust at the 2 into 1 branch) are usual suspects. The autobox can be helped with regular oil changes ( remember it shares the engine oil).

Well, verdict so far? I don't like the auto box and it clunks from the front.

The clunk could be a lack of lube in the knuckle joints.

The a series auto is not like most others in feel, they are very much an acquired taste and despite loving autos I never acquired it and swapped out the auto on the one I had in a mini. But some people absolutely love them, I guess you just need to try not to compare it so more sophisticated systems and as said above, change the oil a lot.
