And a ELM327 v1.5 adapter. It's important its not a v2.1 - Chinese cheapen out on them and they don't work properly - plus often sellers miss-label v1.5 that are the cheap chinese v2.1.

A user has reported that this one works fine: https://www.amazon.co.uk/EiioX-ELM327-Interface-Bluetooth-Diagnostic/dp/B0098T6FZ8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1461955115&sr=8-2&keywords=ELM327

PM me your email address and I'll add you as a test user, so you can get it free.

Downloaded this today & ordered that adapter.

How do I know the test user setup has worked? As I'll obviously have to play with it once the adapter arrives.

It's done it again!

No bloody throttle etc.

I'm beginning to think it's a faulty connection within the 'new' ECU & this is why the bloke selling it scrapped the car at MOT time....

Anyone ever opened one? I might have a go with my spare to see if I can get inside without damaging it or not. I don't really believe it's the car wiring as it never happened before I changed ECUs, seems too much of a coincidence.

You have more patience than me it would have been scrapped/sold/parked up and ignored by now, plenty of good* cheap cars available on this very forum.

UPDATE!

IMPORTANT NEWS!

THE INTERNET IS WRONG!

For the hell of it when I got home I opened the ECU to see if I could check for dry joints, no such luck it's completely full of pink goo. Obviously to make it vibration proof, but only the frogs would make it pink ffs. Proof -

Removing this -

Reveals this -

Pink isn't it?

Anyway, at this point just for the hell of it I thought I'd see what happened if I fitted the old ECU that isn't coded to match the UCH. The internet, HBOL etc all say this will not work....

Guess what? it works!  So much of worldly wisdom eh?

We'll see if this solves it, but considering the problem appeared when the ECUs got swapped it seems logical that the problem is with the ECUs. Oh & while sodding about I freed off the front brake that decided this afternoon was a good day to start sticking again.

Bets on how many minutes it works for? (I'll give you a clue by saying it managed a 10mile test run)

Giving in would be admitting defeat by the french, that's not something any true Englishman would ever do.

Fair play to you - ive given in and scrapped cars for a lot less and I'm a certifiable mentalist who bought THAT Panda at auction!

Have you checked/cleaned/sprayed with WD40 all connections/earth points ? French electrics are unhappy in damp conditions? unlike frogs that thrive in damp regions !

There is a solution that you can soak ECUs in that gets rid of potting compounds in a lot of cases.

I think so, but it doesn't seem related to damp or wet weather so I don't think it's that.

It's working today anyway, so we'll see.

I've heard of people repairing PC motherboards that have got wet by bathing them in isopropyl alcohol, so maybe that could be worth a shot?

I saw a reddit post recently where somebody had spilled a heap of water over their laptop, soaked the motherboard in isopropyl and that resurrected it.

It was like that when I got it, honest! Plus every panel is scuffed & battered so I consider it 'car park armour'.

7 days without a FTP, is this an AS record for a goona?

never mind an AS record, I don't think Renault have ever managed to coax more than 72 hours out of a Laguna.

Their endurance testing team took those cars on a gruelling trip around the world. Hot and dusty, cold and wet, hilly, countries with poor fuel quality and even war zones. And the Laguna FTP'd in every single one.
