Gooner II V6 - Reliable motoring at its finest*

Been and gone! Failed last time, a couple of bulbs were out and the indicator bulbs had lost their yellow. Then passed with flying colours apart from 2 tyres on advisories that now have been replaced.

Next MOT is in December, so just under 6 months away.

Still not as cool as proper headlight wipers.

True, but being HIDs they'd have to be replaced everytime they're nicked or the blades perish!

Posted

I finished my pre mot checks. Amy say in it earlier and did the washers, both popped up and all the lights work! I then cleaned out the interior, it's not washed though...

Posted

Ah I just see what you meant about the MOT being due soon!

Nah, it's more fixing it as it's looking very likely this will be up for sale soon. :(

Posted

I remember you saying they gubbed up frequently and you fixed them 3 days before the test usually!

You've fixed them properly then!

So this looks like it will almost certainly be up for sale soon. I'll take some pictures and write a full write up on its current status. But the long and short of it is that it's fully working except the tyre pressure monitoring system which I've now disabled. Not an MOT failure item on this age anyway. Annoying as I even bought new tyre sensors too.

Basically I have 100% trust in this car. Literally have no worries using it for any trip. So much so, I didn't even have any hesitation to pick the keys up for it to drive 60odd miles to my wife great grandmothers last few hours.

I'll miss it and probably will never have anything like it again. Especially a fully-loaded comfy French barge with a growly V6 upfront.

Not just quite yet for sale. Still waiting on the final outcome of its replacement - which is my parents old car currently undergoing mechanical repair.

Price? I guess around £700, but I will be flexible on it for someone here.

A hell a lot of car for the money that has great performance and packed full of toys that all still work. Still modern and smart looking too.

Why are you even considering selling a rare, reliable and good looking V6 car for a fat diesel golf?

Posted

Placate the wife. Plus it's a nicer place to be than if she picked the car. Her current favourites are the Qashqai, Kadjar, CX5 and Civic Tourer.

This Audi is genuinely far, far more of a liability than the Laguna. Far more oily bits to go wrong, parts more expensive, less toys and more money invested into it.

Also it can't frustrate diesel 1.8d/2.0d BMW drivers by trouser down embarrassing them at the Traffic Light GP.

The big plus is that I can get away with buying more random/interesting as stuff without being constantly asked about when I'm going to buy something fashionable/modern looking/not old man.

Posted

It is really. More toys, more practical, more comfortable and nicer to drive.

Drive it sensibly you should get 25 to 30mpg around town. I can easily get 30-32mpg cruising on the motorway with the aircon on at 70-80mph.

Wife gets 23-24mpg in stop+start traffic to work. I get 18mpg ... because I can't resist listening to that V6 soundtrack. Low revs it's so very quiet.

Get above 4k, let the VVTi kick in and it comes alive and starts to sing. Below that, it stays smooth, quiet and refined.

PM me the lowest most derogatory amount of money I can throw at you in order to drive this away and I'll see what he says. I really want it for myself truth be told but I don't even drive the Duster....

To add to Sics comment I can also say that the facelift Laguna 2(05-07)is actually a great car,Renault ironed out a lot of issues with the facelift version and they are much more pleasant to drive and be around,i myself have a facelift V6 Initiale sport tourer(estate)and I love it,its been really reliable and has not a single issue to speak of really.I worked for Renault for 25 years so have a reasonable knowledge of the cars, plus of course there are several Laguna owners on here to help,Sic has done several jobs on the car including a gearbox oil change and by the sounds of it its ready to go,and yes they drive great and are actually pretty rapid! Also the induction roar is great.......someone BUY it!

I agree with SiC that the sound track is good, I still wouldn't pay for a goona though.

Collection happening this evening! Slight technical hitch as angles hire bike has decided it can't go any further and locked itself...

Now on foot. A crueller man then me might suggest someone relying on a Laguna II as their only car should get used to this...

Not sure I'd go that way. That's the tatty part of fishponds. Around the area where Mat Lucas got the idea of Vicky Pollard! :D

Ahh it's making more sense now, I was wondering why I was expected to know who 'angles bike hire' was :D

It was meeting you angle! I hope you get as much enjoyment out of it as I did. I'm honestly and genuinely missing it right now. :(

Of course the obligatory Wollard ... :)

I appreciate that a petrol station shot is also mandatory; unfortunately I lost my phone somewhere under the seat being childish on the ring road, so you'll have to imagine what £65 of unleaded in a blue Laguna looks like. Yeah, that's right, £65. I'm THAT confident.

See why I left that intake silencer detached? That noise is addictive!

Probably feels unnervingly quiet and smooth against your previous XUDs. :P

Also, many thanks to Si for being a gent, even offering to come and pick me up from the wrong side of Bristol despite me chiseling him on the price. Although he now has cash burning a hole in his pocket, so I want to see an MG.

Utter madness!

In a v6 that's probably only 400 miles though, so it'll probably see that gone!

400 miles? Wow ...that must be driving very carefully.

Indeed, I don't recall much more than that out of a 1.8!

Hence I know the Saab is cheaper on a run, which is daft really
