Aldi impact wrench

Afternoon all,

Popped into local Aldi's this morning and picked up this impact wrench for £19.99-came with an inline oiler and quite a few impact sockets all nicely packaged in a handy case- Gun is quite heavy.

I was a little sceptical as I only have a small compressor that I bought from Aldi' years ago for £60. I connected it up using my big hose-I added this years ago-its the right hand one.-It easily removes wheelnuts from my Royale. So for £20 - quite impressed!

Good to hear. I bought one last time they had them but haven't used it yet, as I did the "breaker bar and flick of the starter" trick on my crankshaft pulley bolt.

I've recently invested in an impact wrench, I'm not going to say its changed my life but it's certainly made jobs like strut swaps and exhausts a realistic possibility at home. Something I'd use probably every couple of months but in those occasions it's very useful. I'd restrict its use to high tensile stuff like crank bolts and suspension bolts, with 450nm it's likely to shear lesser bolts clean off.

I've got one still in the pack from a couple of years ago.

Glad to know I didn't waste my money :-)

I had a cheapo impact wrench and found that over time it lost the ability to undo tight nuts despite me putting a fair amount of oil through it.   Anyone else had a similar experience?

I think mine was a Clarke, from one of those 'bumper air tool starter kit' sets that they sell in Machine Mart with useless shit like a paraffin gun and a coily extension pipe made of stiff plastic.  I've since bought a huge box of O-rings, and next time I find it I intend pulling it to bits to see if it has been chewing them up.

I'll probably still buy one of these ones from Aldi if I'm passing.  At that price it would be rude not to!

My ALDI compressor has been very handy - powers my second hand Clarke rattle gun pretty well and the sprayer has been OK for painting the fence.  The ALDI air powered 1/2 drive socket wrench never worked at all and fell to bits and the air nibbler was fab until the jaws snapped.  The die cutter is about as much use as an ashtray on a motorbike.  Overall, probably about fair considering what I paid.

Used the wrench in anger today. I'm replacing the insert on the front strut of my Royale-the shocker is seizing.. Tried removing the two ball joint nuts-they wouldn't budge-so gave the wrench a go. Easily undid them so well impressed. Stuck at the moment though as my screw type ball joint remover is too small for the ball joint holding the strut to the lower control arm. Will get a fork type splitter in the week.

It's a bit random with the aldi air stuff. I got a regulator a bit back, and that's a bit poo for what I want it for. Fill tank and set it to 5 psi. Set cnc mill going (air for cooling / blowing plastic chips all over the place), and 5 mins later when it get to the end it's at 20 psi. Fill the tank again and it drops back to 5.

I bought one about a year ago. Was ok to begin with and undid wheel nuts easily but after a bit of use its shite.

I'm running it off a 100 litre compressor with 1/2 inch hose and fittings and I oil the gun before every use. I got it for £10 towards end of the offer when they were clearing stock so no big loss.

I've read many folks are happy with theirs but mine isn't great.
