Not just Beetles but Mk1 Golfs, Sciroccos, Passats etc. Think it was the early 80s when they started using the VW logo on steering wheels?

Wolfsburg crest still on the steering wheels in 1980:

Not really...

I did say largely.  There are lots of exceptions, and perhaps '80s invention' is the wrong term, but it was pretty normal not to have a logo on the wheel up until the end of the 1970s.

Didn't early mk2 Polos have the Wolfsburg crest too?

Yes, until the mild facelift in about 1986.  My 1984 B-reg one had the Wolfsburg animal thing.

My Vespa doesn't even have a steering wheel, let alone a manufacturers emblem on it.

I was just about to say that. Mine just says "Momo"

Are you sure it's Momo? :D

Vauxhall Victor FE

Look again, there was definitely a Vauxhall Griffin in the middle of the wheel last time I looked ;)

Most 60s Fords don't, the 100E and earlier upright Anglia/Prefect/Popular don't either. Citroen Ami 6 doesn't.
