And the moral of this story is...

Outside a workshop or a business is a different ball game to knocking at a private house and on some occasions demanding to know why I won't sell, and bollocking me for not using the car.

The fucking cheek of it.

The cosworth lickers face book page have pictures of found cars and the hate for the owners is incredible.

Idiotic comments about going round and giving the owner a shoeing for leaving it unused, rants about how criminal it is to scrap one or to let it go to waste when it could be doing donuts in tescos car parks.

They seem to think it is their right to be able to buy it for what they think they should pay for it, probably less £50 petrol money cos they had to come a long way.

Potless dreamers all of them.

And the criminal to scrap one brigade,You just know these are the same people who post want ads for second hand parts.

I have to agree with what you have said TW.

I have knocked on doors before and approached garage owners too about cars that appear unused and don't have for sale signs on them - however as much as I like a bargain, I have always known that I am making an unsolicited enquiry to buy someone else's property and that I'm at the complete mercy of the owner. If the price isn't what I'm willing to pay, I will either suck it up and make the deal as I really want the vehicle or thank the person for their time and walk away.

If I walk away, it doesn't mean I won't go back in a few months time and ask again......

In 1987 the very last fastback Rapier was for sale in a trade cars style garage between Cardiff and Penarth. While I was thinking about it it sold.It was in really solid condition on an R plate.Regretted for ever more.

Twice, both my dream cars:

1st) D-reg 825 Sterling in Shantung Gold for £900:

Reason: Potless

2nd) D-reg 825 Sterling in Silver for £1500, offered twice at the same price.

Reason: 1st time potless, 2nd time did a deal with a mate which went pear shaped due to his personal circumstances, ultimately I lost out on the Sterling. Again.

Also, spotted a Mk2 800 on the back of a flatbed from Taroni's scrappy in Birmingham. I eventually caught up with the driver and expressed my interest in the car. Phoned up said scrappy the next day to be told it had been bailed because they thought no one would be interested in it or parts from it. Prats.

Had I had any of these cars, I'd have happily got rid of all of my Mk1s (bar the 820e) and kept one good V6.

I bought a really nice Mk2 Escort on Hurst Park Drive many many moons ago. From a bloke called Derek.

Probably the guy opposite the turbo. He had a 4 door for a while. Good 6 or 7 years methinks

I have knocked for cars in the past but im always courteous, polite and respectful to the people who answer to be fair it's paid off as well, I have had people knock on my door some very nice folks and some arseholes, always spend a bit of time talking to the decent ones, the arseholes don't get the time of day
