London Congestion Charge can I take my Van?

Just a quick question regarding the Congestion Charges in London.

Gotta go tomorrow to help my Uncle out for the day but need to use our X reg Fiat Fiorino 1.7 TD Van.

Van date of 1st reg is 29/09/2000.

Can I go into Central London?

The LEZ and the Congestion Charge are two different things covering two very differently sized areas.

Diesel van > over 1.205t unladen > earlier than 2002 registered = £100 per day paid in advance please.

Cardata suggests that your van might be lighter than that though, says 992kg unladen which puts it in the exempt catagory. Check your logbook....

Most older "car derived vans" (Fiorino, C15, Escort, Combi etc) are LEZ exempt.  You should be fine.

Thanks everyone for all you help.  The updated V5 annoyingly doesn't state the vehicles weight but the owners manual does thankfully. It reckons 1070 unladen so I should hopefully be ok.

Am setting off at 6 am from Tamworth but with all the bits and pieces down there I won't be back till around 7 pm. Already looking forward to driving in London.  :?

So if anybody see's a Fiat Fiorino Van in Central London tomorrow then it will most likely be me. Sorry in advance!

What part of central London are you going to be in? I will hang around with my camera for EPIC SPOT ACTION

Have you put the reg into the LEZchecker thingy linked above?

It's all done by ANPR so it's worth checking they have it down as exempt.

Sadly I don't have a clue as my Uncle hasn't revealed to me the address as he using his phone app. I'll try and remember to get a shot myself though if you don't spot me!

I have and it says not subject to LEZ so I'm still looking ok on that score.

Central London in a 15 yr old Fiat Fiorino 1.7 TD with no PAS [ which you certainly notice in tight maneuvering ] and no ABS and Drum rear brakes and all those friendly local drivers too is going to be fun!

Best get off to bed thinking about it too.  :-)

Gosh! Driving something so old and basic in Central London!

I only had power steering on the escort but I also had a trailer with a early 80's rd125 on it and I managed ok Burnside. No abs and drum brakes too.

That'll be where you spent all your luck then.

Older vehicles are more than acceptable in that London, as long as they are being used ironically. You'd best have a trendy beard and tea cosy silly hat.

Bit late to this. The easy way to check is to go to the TfL ( Transport for London) Low Emission Zone website - you put in your reg number and it tells you. I live in the LEZ and check potential purchases regularly - really old vehicles and most 4x4's exempt as are cars. Just check.

So far as the Congestion Charge Zone is concerned that covers just central London and is paid by all vehicles in the Zone. The LEZ goes out almost as far as the M25 though is only for diesels. Cleaner modern diesels don't get changed - it is earlier vehicles that pay.

Though all lorries may get charged. Again best to look at the TfL website.

The LEZ actually breaches the M25 (on a tree/field/wood lined B road....) in Upminster.

I know this is about the LEZ, but if you don't go to the smoke often you will be suprised just how small the congestion charge zone is.

I go to Earls court, Islington and Kings cross quite often and never need to go in the zone...

Hi all! Sorry for the late update. Me and the Fiorino got to that there London in one piece! Ended up going just past Kings Cross Station so we had to pay the Congestion charge which was annoying as was only half a mile or so over.

We paid £14.00 I think for the Charge and had to park the Van in a NCP carpark which the Fiorino roof rack barely cleared by about 2inches. Cost £28  as we stayed over four hours there and was still cheaper than the train though last time I used it to get back from Camden to mates at Bracknell.

Drove through 20 Mph zones in Islington and wasn't get much love off the Borris Bikes an Scooter riders. Felt we suitably lowered the tone of the area.

An as Des mentioned plenty of Bearded Jacamo Reem types around usually Vaping outside some trendy bar / cafe.

Just hoping I haven't been nabbed by the 100 million various traffic etc enforcement cameras and then I can say it went ok,

Fiorino was great though and was almost bang on 300 mile round trip.
