reliant robin question

I know that certain robins ('70's supervan) are famous due to a tv show, and I can remember very recently they could be bought for washers. There are loads on the stock car circuit over here in Northern Ireland. But have they really taken off that much?!!!! They seem to be silly money for a nice one!!

Supply / demand. Cull a load and where are prices expected to go? North obviously.

I hear you. But I don't get it!!

OHV Reliant Regals, particularly the van models, have been expensive for many years.  Early Reliant Robins are going the same way, but Reliant Rialto saloons (the ones with a slightly awkward boot lid, not a hatchback) can be had for reasonable money.  Later Reliant Robins are either getting more expensive or perhaps still depreciating from their originally high purchase price.  Most of the three wheelers kept their value better than similarly sized steel/rust bodied cars, but the non-galvanised chassis on earlier models can drop them to banger money quite quickly.

2001 there were 44,000 on the road.today that is nearer 5000.sausage racing was killing up to 1000 a year.add all the trike conversions etc,and there aren't many around.

The 70mpg,£70 tax, motorcycle licence, rust free selling points are still valid today.

The value of their component parts has also pushed prices up.

Let's not beat around the bush. It's no more than a mere catflap.

Also there seems to be rural communities of a certain age who never passed their car test and are restricted to a Reliant or some God awful Axium micro car.

They must be struggling to find nice examples now so the best can command serious coin.

It also means they may be reluctant to sell. Back to supply and demand again.

I wanted a Rialto nearly 10 years ago just to say I'd had and tried one and they were a bit salty for me back then - would have paid a few hundred and moved it on after 6 months but they were £1200+.

A Mk1 Robin is near the top of my want list.

I keep saying to Mrs Brownnova that I will have a Reliant one day. Every time she responds "no you won't"

I will though...

Old boy up the road from me falls right into this category.  80 plus years old, never took a car test and struggles to keep his Rialto on the road.  Not helped by chav twats from the HA estate up the road turning it on its side periodically.   Despite his age and lack of mobility I wouldn't fancy one of these kids chances if he catches one.

Now and again he will ask me to get him some parts or fiddle with the electrics.   I fear for its longevity, though - he drives it like a Drott.....

I'd like one. For commedy value alone. But there's no way while my arse points south am I paying silly money for the experience!
