Last of the good looking passats in my opinion. Go for it. You will only regret it if you don't!

Is that the Mark 111 Passat?

I have a set of VW original roof bars for one of these if someone wants them.  They only fit ones without rails and only the estate.

Hmm..

This will be a popular roffle.

you not seen inside...but  I 'd imagine this would be possible ...

How much is this going for? These are pretty good, used to be very popular in Europe.

Last of the interesting looking VWs before they just started trying to force a common company identity on every vehicle they did. I used to laugh at my older relatives that got a Polo and a Golf mixed up. Now I get Polos and Golfs mixed up.

I really like them, but they do suffer a bit from always looking a bit downtrodden. I've only ever seen a few 16vs that looked cared for, even if they get polished every week they just seem to end up with rusty wheels, faded plastics and whatnot.

I txt her to ask if it has any major faults ,and would it do 150 miles to dorset ?  She replied not under its own steam but it might get 5 miles to my gaff done . ..  I sense a challenge   :-D

I love these. Had an H reg 1990 one that went for ever. Sold it and bought it back, then my sister had it. Not fast but quietly competent and mega economical for the size. Dimmest headlights in the world caused by VW "clever" electrics only delivering about 10v to them. Loads of passenger space too.

these 'break well' - the pedal box's sell for €120+ as they fit straight into mk2 golfs for hydraulic box conversions to go along with the obligatory bigger engine conversion- I get asked occasionally to weld the extra bracing bracket that's on the mk2 golf onto the b3 Passat's one, but works without that mod... similiarly the clutch slave n master will sell for a few quid to the mk1 n mk2 golf 'engine conversion contingent....

...the 1.8 petrol will be glacially slow but it will soldier on, n on - even with irregular oil changes... these used to be stacked 4 high , in two or 3 rows at my local breakers, near the front gate; about 7 years ago - this was still when it was a 'walk in' yard...; I harvested some of the pedal boxes n clutch bits on the ones that were accessible but its a hard job with the engine still in there, to sell on at a nice profit...the yard owner said he always stacked b3s like that since they were 7 or 8 years old, since they'd never be picked n go straight into the scrap bin when the two trucks turned up every month; I was the only lad, he said ever picked off them. since they 'fell outta bed' (ie worth zero on the second hand market)... some of the later petrol n very late diesel ones also had 'randomly' - 280mm G60 spec brake set up (girling calipers) - n hub carrier et all these can sell well for a nice few quid...

I broke a B3 Passat saaloon that used to belong to my uncle- a b3 TD 1.6; he laid it up for a year, after a fettle for the test, where in the end he never submitted it for test... the rear brake lines had rusted very badly - they snake up over the rear axle n tank, n this is what kills/condemns them - folk cant be bothered replacing the lines for test... the body rusts around the bottom of B pillar n rear end of the sills n arches - front wings can rust too- ala S-class new mercs - where the front edge of the wing meets the plastic bumper...heater 'modules' go meaning a one speed fan...

they are good - totally unloved cars - drive really well when sorted - have big brakes all round n are quite competent n comfortable to drive, tho the petrol ones bar the GT are a bit dull n lathargic... I can see these becoming a major classic rare etc etc vw in the future...

I like this too particularly as it hasn't had the bonnet sanded for rusty rat look bollocks....

Well fairy god mother  musta waved her wand,  as today i took some pics and it's actually a B4  ! my mistake .... So..

4 ace tyres  , Uniroyals  ,metallic purple . puddle in the rear footwell . mold (that does come off easily ) , leccy windas and sunroof (untested just in case .. )  heater fan not working ..Started instantly with a jump.. v quiet engine . I think its a brilliant car ! Clutch midway and light , handbrake was stuck but rocking 1st and reverse freed it . Pillar not perforated  ,bottom of drivers wing blistered paint , steel doesn't seem perforated .. After 15 minutes of looking and leaving it running , (fan cut in and out ).... yeah i'd drive it anywhere !!  I like !   I gave it a quick wash as it was green from the trees its parked under

Were these all dark blue on steels? I've never seen one that wasn't.

Well, the pictured colour. It always looked more blue to me.

Assuming it's priced at somewhere between scrap value and what you'd put it on gumtree for, that looks alright.

You were right to not try the electric openings, as the front window regulators are a huge failure point and the sunroofs get stiff with time and can blow fuses.

Looks honest though, and the 1.8 engines are the pick of the bunch really.

I assume its a 50 quid touch ( being a friend) . she did say it was going for scrap

And there's space to sleep in the engine bay, when needed.
