Rowan Atkinson and Chris Barrie (Rimmer) spring to mind for the old car trips. Doesn't Rowan get to test drive new Astons for the factory before they're relesead or summat?

I think Atkinson is off Astons now, his new Octane coloum suggest so.... Watched the Dagenham programme too last night much fun, especially as everyone local calls it Ford's not Ford, (as per every interview on it!) a fact picked up by a midlands friend

Yes to everyone!

Robbie Coltrane did an excellent series Coltrane's Planes & Automobiles on Channel 4 in '97 and I'm the proud owner of the book, also excellent - not always the case with TV tie-in books - that went with it.

Chris Barrie is good too; nice the way he admits he's a bit of a nerd, though not the total twonc that Rimmer is.

Rowan Atkinson is pretty serious about cars. He's got an old Jag that he races at Goodwood. Persuaded an old chap called Sterling Something to be his co-driver. Guess they got Richard Wilson 'cos they wanted Victor Meldrew. It did liven up a bit when he got narked by something, but I wish they'd shown us round the cars a bit more. My parents had a Traveller in the mid '60s & I'd have loved to see the interior, engine, etc on TV.

It just comes across so much better when the presenter is genuinely interested in, and knowledgeable about, the subject. Mark Williams is another good example. Clarkson too, when he's being himself and not the twat character he plays on TG.

Not watched all of last nights Red Riding yet but it's set in 1980....big 1980 at the end of the opening credits...1st scene is a car coming towards you that then pulls onto a Police Station forecourt and it's a Y reg Saab..

FFS is it that difficult???

Robbie Coltrane is one who looks at home doing that sort of thing but there are others.Mr Coltrane actually seems to know what he's talking about, I remeber one episode about MZ motorbikes, and he did know his stuff........

In my experience you are lucky the Y wasn't on the other end! . I didn't see the opening bit,and when I clocked the Y reg I thought it was 1983.....

It is actually V-reg so it's OK - just that it's a mid-80's 900 rather than a 99.

Never mind, depends how pernickity you want to be! :D

Was it a V?? I could have sworn it was Y!! I stand corrected!

I thought it was a Y reg too, we must both need our eyes testing!

Maybe it's me..... Nah pretty sure in the later shots it was V.Fuggin' ell we must be desperate having a conversation about this :lol: They put a Y-plate on my Sunny for 1983 but I reckon it was too new for a down at heel solicitor. The eagle eyed will note it's also an Isle of Man number...

For god's sakes! It's not like moody plates are hard to get hold of! Did I say that out loud?
