Austin Morris Day Brooklands - Sunday 6th March

I'm already girding up my loins for the first BL chodfest of the year. Is anyone else planning on going? Would be good to see the Barrett-Cox Allegro make an appearance, assuming it isn't broken.

There's also bus and plane shite there for added variety, as well as the museum of course.

I think Angrydicky is going, so we'll be there in our beige beauties as usual.

Always a good day out

I very much doubt the Princess will be sorted in time so I shan't be there.  Tis a long trek from here anyway.

Always a good event this!

I want to take the Somerset this year, because the Maestro went last year. Would be great to get the A40 alongside Mercrocker's fabulous Cowley for some pictures :)

Might be worth confirming the date as the 8th is a tuesday. I know this as it is my other half's birthday and I am taking her to Italy. I got a panic on that I had booked the flights for the wrong day when I saw your thread

8th is indeed a Tuesday.....Austin Morris Day is Sunday the 6th!

I am sure that could be arranged!

This clashes with the Restoration Show at the NEC, so we won't be there with the Wedges this year.

Bump.

This Sunday chaps! I'll be there in the A40 as suggested above. Hopefully we'll have some other 'shiters along?

Took the Metro out for a spin this evening just to give it a check over, great fun as always, so I'm ready for Sunday.

Weather will no doubt be arctic as it always seems to be at AM day, but worth it for the chod on display.

My mate in the next village is going to be there in his red Austin 3-Litre. Do say hello if you see him, because that's pretty heroic. He's driving to the NEC tomorrow just to add to the challenge/fuel expenditure. If there's more than one 3-Litre, his has twin exhausts...

Is it this one? I bet they're mega on a long journey, so can't blame him wanting to use it!

Still hoping,  and planning, to take the Cowley.  Still in bits, though, following a very unscheduled brake failure during the voluntary MOT.

Cowley still in bits.....shan't be there

Shame :( Ah well, next year then!

Yes, bit gutted....Thought MOT would be formality.  Also thought I had brake shoes in shed instead of 6 sets of Farina ones.

This was a great day out as always, despite attendance being a bit down on normal.

My Metro and Dicky's A40 Somerset.

I've now driven my oldest car to date as Richard let me have a go, and apart from crunching 2nd a few times on the column change I really took to driving a proper old car. Loved it! He's a hero for using it as his daily.

Didn't take many other pics. Here's a well-used but sound Austin Cambridge estate.

How did all those cars get there?

On Sunday I had.three separate trips from Milton Keynes to Heathrow and one to Gatwick, so lots of time on M25 and M1 for Austin-Morris spotting. All I saw was one, a dark blue Farina Westminster .

I even went down to Brooklands to have a quick butchers at about 7.00am, the gates were closed, but I thought I might see something at Tesco's - nothing, same with Cobham services.

Conclusion BMC/Leylands lickers are lazy, on any given Sunday in the Summer the motorways are full of PineappleWagens,nOld Skool Racists, wOLLIs and JDMOMGDAFTERZ from 05.00 onwards.

Funny you say that as the same happens to me every year going there and back. I only see the other chod once I hit the A-road a few miles away from Brooklands.  Some do travel a fair distance so not sure what's going on there.

It was a Wolseley 16/60 Convertible special, and had been trailered there.  Might even be this exact one, I can't remember the plate.  I parked opposite several 16/60s and they were absolute minters, so fair play to the owners for braving the salt laden roads (there's shit loads of the stuff in use down here at the moment).

An amusing moment when Dicky was driving my Metro.  We started to give Nick Larkin a lift down to where the Somerset was so he could take some pics, but seeing this Wolseley being loaded onto the trailer he leapt out excitedly to chat to the owner.  He apologised profusely for bundling out but is a work day for him after all!
