I remember the cops in Belfast having an unmarked 1800 16v proton. It was a flying machine!

Oh!!!

Not that it ever had to chase after me!!!

The car is fine, it's reasonably nippy, it's not noisy, it goes it stops, the tyres don't match in each corner but it starts and drives fine, doesn't overheat, has a small oil leak somewhere that doesn't spot when left over-night

Had a couple of these in days gone by, for not much money at all it has to be said!

This was the best example with only 32,000 miles and a whopping £550 at 6 years of age :) (Back in 2005)

Second one was purchased in 2008 and was not quite so good but not bad for £425...

Now talking of oil leaks - they were quite well known for it - at the headgasket...

Was never an issue with mine just weeped a small amount of oil for the couple of years I ran around in it then sold it on.

Last I heard, it was being used on a farm as a run around vehicle ;)

Mine were both the 10 year anniversay edition 1.3 Si models with aircon and windy windows...plus alloys and spoiler for go fast pretentions! :D

I actually have a full clutch kit for one of these if anybody needs one...it's somewhere in the attic...?

Found a fault today.  The horn doesn't work..

And I need to clean some pheasant off the bumper, not done any damage to it though.

Looks like the valve cover area gasket is what's weeping.  It's not too bad though.  I'll replace it at some point.

Tensioned the belts, the squeals have gone now. :)

WeyyAye! Nothing wrong with a 'boring' m8 :)

86K so gathering parts for belt/w pump. My tame MOT man will get the job... No heroics here :(

Prices are bursting the £450 barrier nowadays, give it 3yrs and they'll be hens teeth - Will still have mine, though ;)

I'm actually growing to like it.

Not as in, I park and look back and think, "Wow, what a vehicle", but for day to day get me around kind of things, it's actually a very decent bit of kit.

Might be a keeper, I might fix then raffle off the 'ZR.

I can't remember the last time I saw a Savvy - must be at least 4 years ago now!

They are generally very reliable cars overall.

The only problem with the post 2001 variants is the higher tax brackets....

MIne sat for several months and fired up first turn of the key after coming back to it looking like this ;)

The wonderful thing about driving a Persona/Wira is that when you upgrade to something like a Hyundai Coupe it feels like you bought a Lexus LS400 :D

That oil leak is a simple o ring that seals the oil feed from block to head, unfortunately its bonded to the head gasket, every car I've had from 1.2 to the 1.4 have now had that leak it doenst matter whether it's an 8 valve or 12 they all do it at some stage.

The single cam 16valve goes very well Indead and is pretty good on flowgo, as said just a shame about the tax.

I've decided this is staying with me for a while.  I'll fix the horn and re-MOT it when it expires.

Yeah, the tax is a bit high for the size of the motor, but it does everything else far too well for what I paid for it.

And the girl I bought my MG from wants it back, and wants to do the wheel-bearings herself, if I adjust the cost accordingly.. so I am doing.

Means I can get that Passat B3 Estate Dogging mobile of mine back to a usable state and then I can probably get some sick rimz and slam it and sell it on for profit £££$$!!!ONE1

Of course I'll probably end up sorting the Passat, smoking about in that, and flogging this sensible car on later on, then sorting my van, and being stuck with two expensive to run VW's while the GTI and beetles don't get the attention they deserve, and I'll wish I'd just kept this.

Such is the life of a 'shite'r

I'd have it if it fits an earlier Proton?
