Rear windscreen cleaning bear with me...

Does anyone have good techniques for cleaning the inside of a rear windscreen with printed on heating element?

Mine is fragile to say the least, the last time I very delicately cleaned it trying very hard not to touch the elements I still lost a line making 3 all together not working (and still need to repair them..)  I've been putting this off for around 2 years but am now at the point that it has to be done again.

I have been mulling over waving a steam cleaner at it to see if that would get the worst of the greasy road film off without having to physically touch it. I'm equally concerned this will just finish it off for good.

Any thoughts chaps and chapettes?

I was hoping for pictures of a bear cleaning windows.

I am disappointed.

As for the heating elements, I always clean along the lines, not across.

With the grain if you like.

There's a man in Essex who advertises that he replaces the elements. I have been forgetting to send/take him spare rear glasses that I have for the DS and Safari for about 2 years. Mainly because the cars don't often get used in the type of weather that requires a HRS.

I looked in to this a couple of years ago. The glass is bonded and any tailgates I find second hand are as rusty as mine now is or well on their way. My ultimate plan is at some point* to buy a new tailgate as they were still available last time I checked and come with the glass.

Google told me bear is correct and yes I did have to check before I posted. If it helps it looks like it's been savaged by a bear.  :-D

The bloody merc coupe back windows are lovely to clean, cos they're laminated and the extra fine line heater is between the sheets, however they delaminate after about 5/8 years and from year 2 the elements are suffering due to that starting at the very edges, mine's on its third back window and that buggers got about two lines out already, @ about £500 a pop.

Best window cleaner i've ever bought is in 5 litre bottle from Chemiclean Birmingham, from whom i get all our cleaning stuff from, house and car, the window cleaner is fast and doesn't leave residue that other similar looking types do.

It's a long time ago, but I've fitted heated screen stick on crap, not the seventies panels but a roll of fine elements that were cut to fit the full width, if you could find one of these kits you could replace one element at a time.

Every time I clean the rear window on the car the dog does an impression of a window licker.

I've a few elements out on one or two of the panda's, I naively assumed I could just sort of solder it to fix it.

Advantage of a misted rear window at night is less glare from jigawatt headlights from behind as the povospec panda doesn't have a dipping rear view mirror.
