Booster packs, any recommendations?

That's the badger, except mine's yellow. It arrived fully charged and instantly jumped my 2 litre Audi, which was properly flat. Tomorrow I'll try the Disco - 3.9 V8 will be a good challenge.

I can happily report that this is an excellent piece of kit.  Today I used it as a work light for most of the morning, then did 4 or 5 attempted starts of the V12 XJ-S (unsuccessfully, but not for lack of battery) and then jumped the V8 Disco twice.  It fired instantly.  After all that, the booster pack is still showing 96% charge!

 

Also, charging my iPhone from almost flat takes about 2% of charge.

 

It comes with a guide to how much capacity (in mAh) you need for what size of car.  Overstretching them is apparently a rather bad idea.

 

 

So your 8000mAh one will be fine up to 2.0litre petrol but no good for anything bigger, nor for almost any diesels.  I got the biggest I could find (18k), because 5.3litre V12; the cheaper 15k version (£50) would do pretty much anything else.

 

 

Skizzer summary/verdict:  These work really well.  You get the capacity you pay for.  A cheap one will do for small petrol engines, but buy as big as you're likely to need as more capacity doesn't cost that much more.

Hefty bit of kit. Charged phone really quickly. Previous one was too small to jump start a diesel although could do 2l petrols easily enough.

I know e-cig batteries have a lot of hefty output, maybe it's just a load of them?

Mine has become an essential part of my collection caper kit. Not needed it for jumping yet, but keeps the smart phone charged up. Have jumped several vehicles into life though - Prelude the largest engine so far.
