Not over for my Rover

Recommended Posts

Yay! I'm in the Rover today. After handing over a substantial amount of cash, she's roadworthy again. Good job I got her very cheap...

I'll get some pics up later, but I was wondering, is it about time we had a Readers' Shite section on 'ere? Having everything in one place means stuff about our own cars can get lost quite quickly. Perhaps a shite for sale section too?

That would be far too organised. Besides, I quite like the ramshackle nature of this forum. Maybe a thread to kick off everyones current cars might be a good way of showing off what you have - I'm constantly surprised by some of the cars that pop up on here - its almost like people are too humble to show off their shite. Stunning car too by the way. I think almost without exception my favourite Rover.

I love those wheel trims, they remnd me of my grandad.

Lovely. It's 5 Bells Geek Meet this week - are you bringing it?

Sadly not Pog. Work has conspired against me. If I'm there at all, I'll be in some modern Saab thing (I think it's a 9-5...)I like the wheeltrims too - though there's a part of me that'd still love a set of slog mags...

Hmmm. Lots of clonking and groaning on the way home. Methinks she's suffering from the lack of use in recent years. Or any years if the 28k speedo reading is to be believed. Or maybe I should just corner with less speed...

Was he quite round, shiny & metallic?

That's a debate that has long rumbled on & will probably continue to do so....opinion is very divided to be honest.I think at the very least, if nothing else, some "sticky" subjects should be introduced for popular topics or permanent threads, e.g. the eBay thread or instructions on things like posting pics etc so they don't have to keep being recovered. You could have one of them as a readers rides thread, another as a for sale thread without any board restructuring having to take place that some seem to be so against! A compromise no??

That's looking Zircon Blue-tastic! :D

It's a bit approximate to be honest. It's had a respray (including the radiator in places...) but it's a bit too blue for Zircon I think. I like it though - suits it well.

Well, almost 200 miles done in the Rover now and it's jolly nice. Before you start wondering what I'm doing talking about a nice car though, if you're too harsh with the clutch, it sounds like the engine is going to rip itself out of the car and the exhaust (the rear silencer was bodged horribly to get an MoT pass) is blowing again, so it is trying to be shite! It jumps out of reverse occasionally too - but I'm not entirely sure that the linkage is quite right as fourth can be tricky to find too. All part of the charm!

A couple of my (manual) P6s have had problems with jumping out of reverse too - think it might be a common thing with them. My V8 is looking potentially more and more expensive to MoT by the day, but I reckon I'll still get it done as a) I got it cheap so there's plenty left over for a bit of fettling before I spend more than it's worth, B) it's tax exempt so once it's MoT'd the only expense I have to worry about is petrol, and c) I really enjoy driving it - the handling is great for such an old design, brakes are well up to modern standards and it's got more than enough poke for getting past dawdling old giffers in Ford Fusions. Is yours a positive earth or negative earth car? I think they changed over in 66, but I can't remember exactly when.

Um, good question. And I should know given the number of times I had to use the booster pack on it when it had a dud battery...Think it's a negative. 66 is also the year that the brakes changed from Dunlop (very pricey parts) to Girling. Guess what mine has! Grrrr...I am starting to chuck mine around a bit too. Bought four Toyos for it from Black Circles for about £30 each. They're darned grippy though! Main reason for lobbing it into corners is that the SC is short on grunt, so like the 2CV, maintaining momentum is important! Gives me a chance to deal with plenty of slow duffers, like those in the Nissan Maxima QX thing this morning. PWNAGE IN A P6!I do miss the V8 mind. How do you get on with getting fuel into the thing? Both my P6s have been a pain in the arse, causing the pump to keep cutting out when filling up. Once, in the V8, the fuel pump timed out! I was some way short of filling the tank. Not pleased!

Yup, mine's the same - I've taken to holding the pump with just the very tip of the nozzle in the hole (as the actress said to the bishop) - the splashback then doesn't get far enough to trigger the cut-off, and as long as I don't squeeze the pump trigger too hard I don't usually have any problems. If it's a positive earth model it'll have separate reversing lights - negative earth cars had them integrated into the rear lamp cluster.

Ah, negative it is then. Not that the reverse lights work. Think the switch must be busted. My mate has a 65 and that's on the single reverse light. Must meet up with him for a photo shoot at some point really as he only lives down the road!

Great stuff!:lol::lol::lol: I like to hear of moderns being overtaken in old stuf.

Balls. Bank acount says Zero. I guess it is over for my Rover, with me at least. I've only driven 400 miles in it!But, no money is no money. So, anyone fancy it? It's not very shite I'm afraid.

Posted

Gah! Think I've decided to stick with it, especially as despite being very classy, it's trying its best to be shite. The exhaust is blowing now so it sounds shite, but performance is up, suggesting that the exhaust was a bit blocked!I'll check the exhaust isn't about to fall apart this weekend but otherwise, I think I'll live with it. Blaaaart!
