ok, as some forum users will know there is currently on this site a £500 jewish racing beige one of these offered for sale, for not very many pictures of the queen.

its done many, many miles, i think 230,000 odd and is a 2.0 pez turbo.

it looks very nice in the pictures on the other thread, is there anything in particular to look for, or is it a case of paying the gent selling it and enjoying it until it breaks?

many thanks, Jo x

Enjoying it until it breaks sums it up quite nicely really...

Yup. Why worry at that price? Lots and lots of things can go wrong with these, but it's usually the diesels that seem to cop the OMG FAILz0Rz.

Well obviously it's me selling it   But my opinion, for what it's worth...........

BUY IT, ENJOY IT TILL IT BREAKS. GET A QUOTE FROM A BACK STREET GARAGE - NOT A RENAULT DEALERSHIP. (AFTER ALL THESE ARE SURPRISINGLY CHEAP TO PUT RIGHT COMPARED TO A GERMAN CAR IN THE SAME CLASS). UNDER £300, GET THE WORK DONE! OVER £300, TAKE THE FRONT SEATS OUT, WIRE THEM TO A 12V BATTERY, AND ENJOY THEM IN YOUR HOME. MAYBE NOT AS THE BEST, FRONT ROOM FURNITURE. BUT FOR THE GARAGE, BACK ROOM OR A BEDROOM, THEY WOULD BE MEGA COOL. SEND THE REST TO A SCRAPPY.

But to be fair, I think you will get considerable use and enjoyment out of it. Certainly £500 worth! It does say "service" on the dash - that came on when the coil pencil went, a garage could reset that if you're fussy about it. However, it is driving like a newish car, and is an absolute joy on the motorway.

I had a 2.0T in my Avantime and while it wasn't fast it got mid 30's mpg and was generally pretty sensible.  Buy it, enjoy it and expect what you'd expect from any 500 quid car like, which is it's going to take a bit of tinkering now and again and you need to learn to live with it's quirks.

the collectives view is pretty much what i was thinking.

now to see what the memsahib says tomorrow, like i say, it has caught my eye and am thinking of running the renner over winter instead of the rover 75, but been a fool, i end up buying something and then been unwilling/unable/too stupid to sell whatever the "new" car was supposed to replace....

Well the Renault is mostly plastic panels, so should fare rather better in salt laden roads - especially as the rest of the panels are aluminium!

Plus it does have heated front seats, ideal for winter........

Haha well the leather for these seats actually came from a Bull according to the previous owner, as cow bellies have stretch marks............

Well to be fair, he did mention the word BULL!!

What to look for? In all honesty, the nearest exit. But otherwise, yeah, buy it, run till it drops. Parts can be expensive, and if you love it, you'll find a way to keep it going; if not, it's a cheap way to tick something daft off the list.

Well said RichardK, thats the reason I bought it! And now I've ticked the box, let someone else have it for a few months, and may they have as much pleasure from it as I did!

The Renner badge on the back is an indication of trouble looming. Seriously though there have been a few threads on this forum over the years containing words of wisdom so you would be well advised to search  if you haven't already. My memory is telling me that the ones with the biggest trouble were diesels so you'll avoid this area being a petrol car.
