castros_bro Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Take the 106 if the engine is a good one, the gear linkage arms are a keyhole surgery type fit but all 3 can be replaced whilst parked in a layby and £20 off Fleabay for some with retaining clips so they don't fall off, tyre for a 1.1 would be partworns at £15 fitted or possibly a set on wheels from Fleabay. I'm a large 6'2" and here's mine topping 175,000 mile somewhere in Portugal carrying the "breakdown insurance" moped after a 1000 miles journey. A surprisingly practical and fugal motor. oldcars Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 All scrap - worth £30 each. Keep looking. This, they all sound rough. I would enter a few raffles on here and see what happens.
jonny69 Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 The way I see it: The Accord needs a master cylinder, fuel pipes and potentially some welding +£100 106 is a step into the unknown, sounds like it needs tyres and gear linkages +£70 Laguna - already dead. SWMBO owned a Renault of that age and I experienced first hand how difficult they are to work on. I certainly WOULD NOT. She never had any electrical gremlins but I think that was pure chance. I'd be looking to recore that rad. As sensible as that all sounds and as far away from the spirit of Autoshite as it could possibly get, you've got to consider a couple of things:-This is going to be your main mode of transport for a bit.-You know what's up with the Scorpio.-Winter is coming and all breakdowns are more miserable once it's cold and wet.-Total spend to get any of them on the road is going to be about £250 plus the unknown. I haven't read the whole new Scorpio thread you've done. How pissy is the rad? Can you not bodge it up short-term with Chemical Metal over the holes and some Radseal (Autoshite rep re-addressed in the process)? Or get in there with a blow torch and some plumbing solder. It doesn't have to be perfect, just watertight.
scaryoldcortina Posted November 6, 2015 Author Posted November 6, 2015 I will be fixing the scorpio! It's just taking longer than planned, and I need to drive something temporarily while I sort it out. Anyway, the decision is made. I just got a phone call, I now own a Laguna. billyboy406v6 Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Pics of repairs are politely requested, and lots of words explaining the pics ! Good luck ( I would have had the Accord)
scaryoldcortina Posted November 6, 2015 Author Posted November 6, 2015 No problem. Pics will happen. Ordinarily I'd have had the accord too, but I know this one is pretty dead. I'm the one who told him to go get another car because it wasn't worth fixing and that was 4 months ago when it still had some MoT (I also did last years MoT and told him then it was a world of pain waiting to happen). I don't even remember testing the Laguna, so that probably means it isn't that bad. The bad ones are usually memorable. anonymous user 1

Ghosty Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 '98 Accord? I'd only have that if it was the older model or a coupé, not the boring 98-02 one. I don't like them anyway but that one doesn't sound like it has any plus point past the tyres. I'd have said 106 personally unless you're some sort of electrical wizard. I think the Laguna is the most AS choice of the 3, and wish you every success in getting it working.
scaryoldcortina Posted November 6, 2015 Author Posted November 6, 2015 some sort of electrical wizard. Yeah, you could say that PS, honda IS the boring one.
jonathan_dyane Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Looking forward to seeing the laguna but I'm terribly disappointed it isn't a dci...
Lacquer Peel Posted November 6, 2015 Posted November 6, 2015 Glad for scary's sanity that it isn't a DCi.
scaryoldcortina Posted November 6, 2015 Author Posted November 6, 2015 You think I'd have said yes if it was? I knew it was a petrol one.... Lacquer Peel 1
