The next best motorsports event after the 24h of Le Mans:

The event schedule can be found here: http://www.v8supercars.com.au/events/new-south-wales/supercheap-auto-bathurst-1000/what-s-on/track-schedule
It will culminate in the 1,000 km race on Sunday 11:00 local time. Which really is Saturday. Or Monday. Or some fucking day. Or night. Whatever.

And it wouldn't be Australia, if the latest news weren't this: http://www.abc.net.au/news/2015-10-08/bathurst-driver-reyndolds-fined-for-sexist-comments/6839202

Anyway, I'll see if there will be some live shitestreams and post them here.
Would appreciate if others did the same.

Erm, that is a good race at one of the world's greatest tracks, but hate to break it to you, it is a race for NEW CARS.

If you are serious about your Aussie sh!te racing, you need to get into HQ Holden racing.

http://www.hqracingvic.org/info/Car-Specs.aspx

All cars must have a 202 straight 6, 3-on-the-tree, drum rear brakes and were designed to understeer to pacify inexpert drivers.

In other words, they take your typical 1971 family car straight to the racetrack.  And everyone else is driving the same car.  Wonderful stuff.

Thread title corrected.

A tough race on a tough track is a tough race on a tough track, no matter which cars you use.

And the Aussies use the endangered species of big bloody V8s. This is proven to be good.

For most of the year, this track is public roads.

I have driven the course myself (well you have to, don't you)

The speed limit is 60kmh, even downhill down Conrod Straight, where the temptation to plant the foot is almost unbearable.

But those twists and turns up and around the mountain?  I kid you not - the maximum comfortable speed around those bends is no more than 40kmh.

Here's a clip from the glory days.

Love the Bathhurst 1000, a truly epic race in an amazing looking location.

Also, introduced me to a shall we say, uniquely Aussie expression for driving a Ford. Live throw to the great Dick Johnson hammering down Conrod straight in a Falcon asking him how it's going, he replied, "Ah it's goin' real good mate, always great to be humpin' with Henry"

I'll watch highlights on Motors TV if they show it,always watch V8 Supercars when it's on  8)

I'll watch it live if I can find a stream. Should start tomorrow around midnight, if my calculations are correct.

Not sure how severely Mostert's shunt is going to screw up the schedule, seeing that they closed the track and stopped further qualifying.

Bloody H+S now even in Oz shocker.

There has been a bit of an oopsy during qualifying.

Pffft.  He stayed between the walls.  Back in the 80s, some bloke took a Volvo the quick way down to Conrod.

111/2 rolls.

"Any further to the right might be considered weaving by race control"

Heck, I'd be glad if I could keep it somewhere between the concrete walls.

Madniz.

That Ovlov is only fast downhill, so it doesn't seem to benefit from the new lower diff ratio.

Are these cars made from boiler plate, or why do they survive this constant nudging and ramming seemingly unscathed?

Posted

volvo is doing well considering they've got 2/3rds the budget of the rest of them....

they all use the same chassis etc underneath.

dash fail, just turn off and on. wtf is it a citroen?

Now they get a 15 second penalty at the next pit stop for passing the black flag twice.

I bet that sucks slightly.

That Austrian funded #1 Holden is running like a bloody clockwork.

How steep is that descent through the Esses? It looks like they go into Stuka mode!
