Why does the best shite...

...always drive past when you have no camera? The slightly dog-eared red C-plate Regata saloon that I passed on Friday was bad enough, but then tonight on the way home from work I saw a car which, IMHO, would score more shite points than a beige Talbot Tagora turbo diesel stretch limo. In fact I momentarily thought I was hallucinating as it drove past. A faded maroon AMC Pacer, with liberal patches of brush-painted grey primer, scruffy slotmag-type wheels, a blowing exhaust, extremely feeble headlights and what sounded like a plug down. Alas, I was on the pushbike at the time - if I'd been in the car, handbrake turnage would have occurred. Please, please, please, anyone in the Norwich area, keep an eye out for this wonderful machine - the way it was running I don't think it can have come from (or gone to) very far away, so it's gotta be out there somewhere. And I want to leave a note on the windscreen...

oooh!! Regata, and a Pacer.. Was the Pacer an 'uber' shite RHD one with heath robinson steering apparatus?

There is a guy in Norwich on RR who has two Pacers. Can't remember for the life of me who it is, but I remember he is a serial tat hauler like yourself. Will let you know as soon as i find him...

Ignore me, it was 'GasserJay', and he has one Pacer and a Gremlin too.

It can't be his though, as that looks like this:

Might be worth pm'ing him though as he may know of it?

I know of another that is up my mates workshop near Bungay. Guess what paint scheme that one is getting

Pacer sounds fabulously crap Wuv. I saw an early beige SAAB 99 with ladder on roof rack trundling along the North Circular this morning. 'Course I was steering a buggy at the time and it would have been about 5 pixels wide in a phone cam spot photo even if I could have worked the buttons in time.

Yes!Just last week I was driving the metro and passed a mustard coloured Ital coming in the other direction. No chance for a photo but I gave him a thumbs-up out of respect for his motor but he ignored it!

That Pacer is phenomenal. Your spot however sounds like a wonderful sight (and sound) I know what you mean about the best shite at the worst time.I have done it twice! there has been a white Fiat (coincidence?) Regatta parked outside/near the GSF branch in the Southside of Glasgow on my way to work on push bike! I have seen the beast twice but both times I've been unable to sort out a picture (late for work etc) I WILL get it soon.... The other inappropriate shite meeting is when you're not driving your own heap of shite but in fact are in a company/hire/relative's modern bland mobile and the magic event of two shiters in the know passing each other to mutual admiration is missed  I've had this

I saw one today like this,a Mk 2 Jag.It was red,but not ultra shiny restored red.Instead,it was dull & faded. And what wheels did it have, chrome wires?Oh no,they were '70s slotmags with whitewall tyres :)

I've been meaning to get a camera to keep in the van for ages and I'm kicking myself today. Not only snowy mountain scenes but in the no-mans land between Llanberis Pass and Capel Curig, a black Austin 1800, surrounded by snow and nothingness. It looked ace!

On Sunday I had a real shite fest while enroute from Woking to London, WITH a camera in the car (GSA), and still couldn't snap any of the spots!!Turned left at a crossroads, to encounter a very nice Cortina MkII convertible - exchanged waves with the driver anyway. On the A3 - a ?MK2 Jag in front of me, a L reg MG Midget behind me (not for long - it was doing about 75) - yeah I know, not very shite.Near Stockwell: the shiteyist Volvo 340 I've ever seen, brown, parked in a driveway, up on a jack with one wheel removed. On Tooting High Street: while crawling along in stop-start traffic, I spotted a fantastic Fiat 126/7 in metallic brown, V reg, parked at the side of the road. Fumbled for my camera in my bag.... the cars in front started to move, then in my distraction I stalled the car. Phail! Mark.
