4 Sail - Renault Master van - £250

Owning three almost identical vans is a bit silly really.  So here's one of them for sale.

It's a 2001 Master 2.8 DTI MWB high top.  The engine starts instantly, pulls like a train and doesn't feel like it's done anywhere near the 250-odd thousand miles showing on the odometer.

The gearbox is a slightly different matter, and is the main reason why the van's so cheap.  It was advertised as having a noisy first gear - which it does.  This on its own isn't much of an issue as I just pull away in second.  However, it also has a noisy 5th (albeit not as bad), and it jumps out of second on the overrun unless you hold it in.  I've checked the gearbox oil level and it's spot on, so must just be getting worn.

The rest of the van is standard fare for a van of its age / mileage.  The driver's seat is tatty, passenger bench is saggy, there's various rust scabs on the body and some grot in the nearside sill under the front door.  One of the back doors is dented, but all the doors still open / shut OK, and there's a BFO roofrack fitted.  Lights / wipers / horn etc. all work, and tyres are all OK.

It's tested until 19th February next year, and is ready to drive away - the fifth gear noise might get a bit annoying on a long run, but otherwise I can't see anything to stop it - and it'll do 70 in 4th anyway if you're prepared to drop a couple of mpg.

Here's some photos:

Yep, deffo not a LEZbian, sadly.  Normally anything prior to 51-plate will be non-compliant (unless it's a Transit, which were compliant from X-reg onwards).

Hmm, now that would help clear the shit out of the garage, is it front or rear wheel drive?

These are the EXACT same symptoms that mine displayed. The buyer should* get at least another 5,000 miles out of the current 'box. When 2nd starts making the awful noises, stay close-ish to home and/or take out full breakdown cover. They let go spectacularly when they do let go.

It's still a massive bargain, as the 'boxes are plentiful 2nd-hand, and even if you splashed out on a recon one you'd still have a great deal. As said, the Iveco engines pull very well and are virtually indestructible. GLWTS etc etc.

I could do with a van for a couple if days, I've got stuff to move from Brads and Ma's places. I'm fully insured and usually 'a man of leisure' these days if anyone wants me to fetch it for them but also wouldn't mind lending this to me for a couple of days in the process?

It's front drive.

Any interest in this?  It seems to be attracting a particularly pernicious breed of Gumtree mong for some reason, so it's still for sale.

Whereabouts is this? I'm tempted by it after my LDV Convoy was written off by a couple of american tourists in a hired 15 plate Volvo Estate. I'm just awaiting the insurance payout to come through which should be in the next few days.

I was converting my Convoy to a camper, and this looks like the ideal replacement. I'm assuming it drives ok with the gearbox issue.

It's in NE Norfolk.  It drives fine - the jumping-out-of-second thing can be a pain in town, but on the open road it rolls along quite happily.
