For added jeopardy/madness you could buy single train tickets (or hide in the bogs like everyone* else does) and then buy one of the fine steeds from the auction hall to drive back in.

Any others interested in this outing, day after tomorrow in the evening.

Oh, and anyone who wants a pre-production auction fun pack PM me your email address and I'll zoom one of the modified versions out to you toute suite.

For those who can't attend the catalogue can be seen here:

Looks like a good crop this week. quarter of a million mile mercedes limo, 225k Saab 900 floppy top, 130k hyundai matrix...

Another fun-packed night of bargains tonight, less full-fat wrecks than last time but still plenty of bargains to be had for the discerning* shiteist. Here was a selection of my favourites which hopefully the other stalwarts of the collective will be able to bring to life via the medium of grainy, blurry photos mostly featuring ends of fingers.

Option 1 - a 225k mile saab 9-3 floppytop with leather interior which had definitely suffered from sun damage. Yours for £150.

Option 2 - A hyundai Coupe gen 2 which proved to be a particularly shrewd choice for 'Sports Boy' went for £270

Option 3 - A remarkably tidy Corsa C 1.2 SXI sold for just £220

Option 4 - £575 would have got you behind the wheel of a Skoda Superb 2.8 from 2004.

Option 5 - £200 for a Volvo S60 2.0 TS - there was much discussion about whether it posessed a turbo or whether it was normanly aspirated and therefore utterly shit. It had 201k miles though.

Option 6 - £250 to be just like Ronnie Pickering and drive a 142k pez picasso

Option 7 - The Nissan Largo from last time sold this time around for £675. You know you're winning at life when your van has more sunroofs (5) then doors (4). I think they'd fixed* the exhaust, it sounded less fruity this time, but did stall once driving into the hall, then again just after the hammer fell.

Option 8 - Bargain of the night, an extremely hirsuite man paid just £275 (not a typo) for a 2007 Peugeot 407 HDI Auto with 117k. No V5 but this was a monster of a bargain. He looked chuffed, I think.

Option 9 - The Mitsubishi Charisma* which even the auctioneer remaked was a poor choice of name was bid up to £250, we weren't sure if it sold or not.

Option 10 - £160  for a tidy looking Nissan Primera P10 seemed a bargain. Post auction inspection in the car park in the dark revealed that the sills were rust free too, which was amazing. I very nearly bought this to replace the Almera, or maybe begin to accumulate the whole mid-90s Nissan car lineup. K11 micra plus a QX for special* journeys and I'd be sorted, probably for substantially under a grand for all 4.

Option 11 - Everyone* was devastated* that the Hyundai Matrix 1.6 didn't get any interest.

Option 12 - A Skoda Octavia, fresh from the rank sporting steelie wheels and 346k careful* miles was bit furiously to £400. Coming, clocked, to a rank near YOU.

Option 13 - We all agreed that the lowered dark blue Stilo actually looked pretty good value at £350 and we'd probably roll in one at that price.

Option 14 - a finance repo Megane folding hard-top went for £800 which was amazing as it was basically a mobile fish tank. The general consensus was the previous owners knew the bailiff was coming so left the roof down in the pissing rain for days on end.

Option 15 - the tatty Corsa B in white with ferric oxide detailing sadly failed to get any bids at all. Even at £100.

The newly modified Auction Game added extra dimensions of fun to proceedings, though we were berated by the auctioneer for 'standing at the back making notes and not buying anything'. Sadly 'For the Mrs' and 'Under the Thumb' had to be adandoned as we all chose cars which didn't get any bids on them. Doobietoo nearly bought a 200k picasso himself in order to win, but couldn't handle the eternal shame this would bring and chose second place in the game instead.

Pics to follow! And another exciting round planned for next month. Christmas presents for the whole family ahoy!

Good coverage there Stanky.....only just got in from work so couldn't make it again.   I scanned your report quickly and thought you had written "Hillman Minx" but before I could bellow in despair I realised it was "Hyundai Matrix".

Posted

Don't forget the apparently unremarkable mk1 Focus 1.6 zetec that sold for some silly price while an apparently almost identical one went for hardly anything, and the newer ones got no interest.

I made the schoolboy error of not pre-populating my options, and on the night I was too dazzled by the array of choices to properly fill out my form, so I was out of the game. Still, fun was had. Also I insulted doobietoo's car accidentally but I'm still surprised they made Fiestas that look like that.

2.0 Turbo with poverty trim 'S' I would be guessing.

Poverty trim in an S60 is still very nice though.

Looks like some bargain motors in Southampton, gutted that it is wrong day of the week for me.

Definitely enjoyed last night more than the previous one. I reckon the 407's new family got an absolute bargain there. To think that I walked right past it in search of post-2005 material and plumped for a game losing Pug 207 around the corner that went for just shy of £1,500. Ouch

Still, no missing MOTs this time, so I'm definitely getting better* at this

My photos all turned out terribly. I hate the camera on my phone. Next time I'll remember to charge the actual camera

finally got time to sort last nights pics and off my new phone so a little less shonky in places. Still don't know why some are better than others though... As always a great night out with plenty of fun and banter and some right bargains chugging their way through the hall. They even turned the heating on which was nice as was the Auctioneer getting a bit wound up when offered £100 for a 57 plate Merc .....

The Saab was tidy...

Clio went for £90 complete with long mot IIRC

X-type was nice...can't remember how much it went for but mr encyclopaedia AKA Stanky will....

Since when did Suzuki's become desirable???? lost the quiz on two snotters that fetched good money...

And finally we toured the town in this fire breathing monster after the auction, drinking pink champagne and screaming at passersby.

not really.....it was just parked outside...

Ah yes the Dragon Bus, we hoped* it would be in the auction but it seems to have just been parked there to draw in the punters. To be fair it worked on us.

The Jag was pretty tidy and diesel and estatey and got about £1400 I think. There was a fairly nice pez saloon which got no bids at £400 too. It was a bit bluey-grey though. Sort of 'iffy stem seal smoke' if you will.

There was a load of other guff that went through, I think we had about 45 lots in all, but these were the pick* of the crop.

Following careful consideration I reckon I could have just bought that P10 outright for about the same amount I'm spending on the various bits to fix the N15 Almera but that wouldn't be very shitey.

We'll arrange another one just before christmas when I expect the auction hall to be full of the most almighty tat with no-one bidding on any of it because they are all wiped out from buying x-boxes for their kids.

I think the real winner will be the January one when all the post-xmas repo's go through.

Any appetite for a pre-xmas auction visit? I think I'm free on the 17th or we could do the 28th to take away the post-christmas misery? Just think, you could take all your unwanted christmas presents to cash converters earlier in the day then use the funds raised to buy what you really want. A broken car.

Anyone interested, they're flogging a D-reg, 30k mile Daimler Double Six 5.3 v12 tonight, with MOT to October next year. Phwoar! I can't make it but anyone closer please go and get pics!

Plus all the other usual chod, 200k mile picassos, 225k mile saab floppytops, you name it, they have a down-at-heel, leggy, unwashed example.

Posted

I can do the 17th, but not the 28th. I reckon Grumpy Geoff will be right peeved off that day as there'll be a grand total of 3 people there, and none of us will be buying...

Talking of which, I think I saw the Largo the other day. Can't be too many N reg Largos around these parts. Might have seen the genuinely good Fiesta that got lots of bids on the shopfront at one of the dealers near Fratton Park for about 2 and a half.

Posted

17th is good for moi....I *might be in the new daily if its fixed by then.... I wonder if they will be doing a special xmas turkey messy burger...

Posted

Sorry forgot about this - yes I am definitely free on the 17th so will head down to the hall of broken dreams straight from work.

Any other takers? Gr8 opportunity to get an unforgettable gift for that hard-to-buy-for relative! Fried food galore too, there is literally something for everyone.

Slappy, if you want a fun pack PM me your email address and I'll get one over to you so you can do what I do* and pretend to be working on spreadsheets all afternoon when you're actually debating the relative merits of a kippered Zafira and a 200,000 mile Picasso to win the grudging admiration of strange men off the internet

Another bump for this, are we on for this tomorrow night? I'm really keen to get a go in the new Doobie-mobile if you're about? Slappy, are you about and do you want a fun pack in advance?

Any other shiters interested? There must* be some good stuff because their website isn't responsive at the moment due to the immense demand

Posted

Yep still on .... although the website seems dead, maybe we both tried to access it at the same time and it couldn't cope :-P  ... so no pre-auction research... the PPE has behaved itself all week so will make its inaugural shiters meeting and also be making its first longer than 20 mile run... Is wolf coming this time??

Posted

I believe he is sitting this one out but hopes to be there for the January repo-mania event, he'll be along in a bit to confirm I suspect.

Looking forward to it!

Drat. I'm afraid I'm ooot for this one chaps, my mates have just got back from KiwiLand, so enjoying a pint of something proper and a pub quiz.

As it is I would have enjoyed seeing someone enjoy the PPE, and also see Doobie's face were it to accidentally get punted across the block :-P

Shall we get the ball rolling on a January outing chaps? I could do either the 14th or 21st, are either of them any good for others?

21st possible for me.....New Year Resolution No.42 - MEAT MOAR SHITERS

So, 21st at about 6.30pm opposite the shady car park then chaps? I'll head down straight from work with Wolf - anyone need directions or a copy of the auction fun pack? Some entrants already on the catalogue include:

- A dCi Laguna 2 with 164k miles

- A 41k MGF

- A near-280k red LTI taxi

- A Lincoln Navigator (I think these have an official combined fuel consumption of 9mpg)

- A couple of Rover 45/MG ZS's for some hot hot kettle action

Plus the usual plethora of 206's, focii, rusty vans and ex-taxis which have been clocked more often than MOT'd.

And there is still literally days to go before the catalogue is finalised!

I'd really like to know for what kind of monnies that LTI taxi goes.

Posted

A rivetting report should follow. I think the going rate is about £1k for one, though the market is flooded as they've been banned/being banned from the capital because of air pollution laws so the value is below where it should be, or so I've heard.

Posted

Plan to be there tonight but where is the shady car park of which you speak?   Same side of Millbank Street as the auction or across t'road?

6.30pm still?

Posted

There's a car park just the other side of bond street which is free after 18:30 which is where we usually congregate, same side as the auctions though.

See you later!

Another action packed event, for some reason it was a displacement-fest with only two cars under 1500cc going through the hall.

Was good to see Mercrocker too, even though his lovely Morris nearly got wiped out by a mong giving his newly-purchased Hyundai getz a post-purchase shakedown in the carpark! Sadly the Lincoln Navigator (shod with 20" LingLong tyres, just what you want on a 300bhp, 3 tonne monstrosity) didn't sell at £5.5k, and it was commented on that there really isn't much that can make a Range Rover look small, however the Lincoln managed this with ease.

Star was an MOT-less 2002 mitsubishi Charisma* for £120, though for the £500 shiteist there was plenty to choose from. I can;t remember all of it and I left the bit of paper with the full sale price list in my other jacket but from memory the £130 deisel mondy looked good, if a bit dirty; there was an astonishingly rust-free 2003 ford KA for £300 and the same amount would have gotten you a hyundai coupe for the full boy-racer look, plus change for half a tank of pez on the way home.

Oh yeah, £350 would have bagged you a 15 year old c-class with professional* rust repair and re-spray by the Guide Dogs for the Blind bodywork team.

I'll add some more info later on when I get the numbers, though i'm sure Doobie and Mercrocker will have their own highlights.

TataBobu, the taxi was conspicuous by its absence, not sure why but it fell off the list about lunchtime and wasn't anywhere to be seen in the auction lot.
