Mally Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Bulb you need is a Stop/Tail, wattage is marked on your old bulb.Probably 21/5w or something like. Take your old bulb in with you and ask.May well be offset pin, if so will only fit one way round. oldcars 1
oldcars Posted November 30, 2016 Author Posted November 30, 2016 I did take the old one in, chap looked at it and gave me this new one. Might try and run up to the car and fit it, might be best option Dollywobbler, that is class. Same model as mine with the drop down boot. Quite rare now. That might have the "B" axle as well and a yellow top engine depending on age. Love the seamless* repair to the screen.Edit - i see the link now below the photo and it does have the yellow top engine.
plasticvandan Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 so he says, the car is a pre rialto 2 model (different grill, striping, bumpers) and its very easy to paint a rocker cover yellow.
Eddie Honda Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 I knew before I even clicked on the link it was a catflap version. I'm oot. Anyway, my beige one turned 30 a month ago. Which means zero VRT when I import it to Ireland. Last month they would have reamed me for about €120. I'm going to look up d'rules for the M50 toll... Uncle Jimmy and oldcars 2
bub2006 Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 With all due respect that does look a tad ropey. Brilliant cars though. Still miss mine.
oldcars Posted November 30, 2016 Author Posted November 30, 2016 I like the drop down boot, can get loads in. Bub, if you think that is ropy should have seen mine before the repaint Got new bulb, garage up the road ordered one in and i just popped up and fitted it, all working again
dollywobbler Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 It looks fantastically ropey. Anyone want a RAV? I know the Rialto isn't quite the Lexus I really want, but it looks a bit of fun. oldcars 1
bub2006 Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 Mine had a chunk out the passenger body under sill where I lost arse end in ice and snow. Ended up taking a plastic bolard out and the concrete base was wedged between the chassis and body. Great fun it was oldcars 1
oldcars Posted November 30, 2016 Author Posted November 30, 2016 It looks fantastically ropey. Anyone want a RAV? I know the Rialto isn't quite the Lexus I really want, but it looks a bit of fun.Do it (if the Rav sells). I love mine, great fun to drive. I get waves all the time . With a clean up, sort the screen leak and a new wing mirror i think that would look good.
plasticvandan Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 best driving one i had was the silly boot rialto, couldnt get a motorbike in the back though like the others for winter i had a plastic crate filled with bricks in the boot oldcars 1
Matt Posted November 30, 2016 Posted November 30, 2016 I would love to have a go in one too and seems prices aren't all that crazy (yet). oldcars 1
oldcars Posted December 7, 2016 Author Posted December 7, 2016 Bit of a oil slick under the old Reliant this morning. Can see any sign of a leak. Had heavy rain last night, first in a long time so hoping that its just the muck off the roads that the front wheel has brought onto the pavement. Will get a good look tonight and wash the street up a bit as it warm today.
plasticvandan Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 common areas, timing cover seal, oil filter, oil pressure switch, rocker cover(obviously) gearbox rear seal, pretty much anything that contains oil lol oldcars 1
oldcars Posted December 7, 2016 Author Posted December 7, 2016 Cheers Dan. All looks fine to be honest, block still really clean from cleaning it up when i did the headgasket. Rocker cover seal was replaced then too. Going to get underneath when i get home and check further back from engine, gearbox etc.
Mally Posted December 7, 2016 Posted December 7, 2016 Had one once with the sump rusted through, very rare they are so oil tight.Dip the oil see if any's gone. oldcars 1

oldcars Posted January 11, 2017 Author Posted January 11, 2017 New mot on this as of this morning Few bits to fix, cannot get the cap off the front hub to adjust the bearing so will get a mate to look at it for me. Had a new wheel cylinder a few months back and the handbrake has been high since but holds fine, wonder what needs done there? Tyres i knew about need to get some ordered. Mally Posted January 11, 2017 Posted January 11, 2017 Advisory. No one does those!Rub the brake pipe lightly with emery and coat with grease or vaseline.Hand brake, can possibly adjust cable or put one of those cable benders on if you can still get them.Never seen a front wheel bearing collapse yet, wouldn't worry about it.Tyres, yes I'd do them.Result! oldcars 1
Eddie Honda Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 No mention of the kingpin on the advisory list? Can't be true! oldcars and strangeangel 2
oldcars Posted January 12, 2017 Author Posted January 12, 2017 No mention of the kingpin on the advisory list? Can't be true!It was replaced the year before i bought it. It was on mot history and i have a receipt for £££ for it to be fixed somewhere in the paperwork. Have you got yours back on the road yet?
Eddie Honda Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Nope, but I did look at it after Christmas and buggered the rear door opening it as the hinges are partially seized (I think the wee man is wondering where the missing wheel is) vulgalour, oldcars and M'coli 3
oldcars Posted January 12, 2017 Author Posted January 12, 2017 Looks nice, i like that colour for Reliants. My wee lad did the same when he first saw it. Does it need much to get back on the road?
bub2006 Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Mates headgasket has gone in his reliant Robin. It's his one and only car so he is using bus at the minute. Engine out and to the floor and we lifted the front end over it. Cylinder head removal was a bloody pain though.
oldcars Posted January 12, 2017 Author Posted January 12, 2017 I sometimes think it would have been easier to take the engine out. Had to replace two engine mounts anyway.
plasticvandan Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 To remove front hub grease cap, screw a self taper into the centre and pull with pliers, grips while tapping the lip around the edge.Handbrake will need the cable adjusting/replacing if its stretched. oldcars and Eddie Honda 2
vulgalour Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 Eddie, that picture is top notch. Congrats on the pass, Shuma, and with such minor trivialities to attend to as well! oldcars 1
Eddie Honda Posted January 12, 2017 Posted January 12, 2017 I last drove it around Glasgow in 2007 with OMGHGF. Plumes of steam would accompany a restart as the cylinders filled with water. It got so bad at the time I as HGV training that on day 4 I had to remove all the spark plugs and spin the motor over to empty the pots. Funny thing was you could drive it long distance and hardly lose a drop as there was just enough combustion pressure to keep the water in the water jacket without blowing the rad cap. Took it down to Carlisle, across the WWland and even did a trip to Slough and back in it. Skimmed head is back on it (doing it in with) and I've got the carb over here. Collection thread when I make some room for it here and export it. Bonus points for ID'ing the gearboxes (Dan, you can answer later) and also if you can ID the wheel on the bonnet. oldcars 1

Engine out and to the floor and we lifted the front end over it. Cylinder head removal was a bloody pain though. They have wet liners, the liner is supposed to stick up 6 thou ish. Usually its level, pressed down over the years. It is possible to carefully scrape the aluminium head round the edge of the liner to create an artificial lip which can help a new seal.Careful to remove the scraped off bits though.
Eddie Honda Posted January 13, 2017 Posted January 13, 2017 Cylinder head removal was a bloody pain though. They need to be pulled up dead square. With bar and washers it's a piece of cake. Like this: Mind you, I've had 6 heads that were total bastards to remove and 1 (which I didn't do - I was busy with a gearbox at the time - just slid off) oldcars 1
