UK Campsites list some nearby sites - anything that mentions a "certificated location" usually means they're tied to a club and you need to be a member to get in. Here are a few that aren't:

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=2602, YO41 4AZ - shit reviews but mile and half away - do ya loike dags

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=6906, YO19 4SG - 1/2 mile to the west of the end of the strip but 5 miles away in the car :D

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=1048, YO42 4JP 11 mles away excellent reviews

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=12222, Y08 6PR 10 miles south

I'm on nights, so expect to be there sometime on the Saturday...

I think the Swallow Hall one looks the best, ill give them a call and find out wether we will be welcome.

£12 tops for tent camping isn't too extortionate if you get a warm shower too.

In other news, the 205 has blown its turbo again, 3rd one in the same number of months! Bummer.

Fyi to all who have booked tickets- they are not posting them-you need to show your invoice in the gate to get in.

apologies for the shambles- folk in charge appear to have confusion over arse/elbow locations!

Hi All,

have spoken to 5 campsites this morning- none of them willing to take a booking for 4 pitches.

So it may be that folk will either need to camp individually and we all meet on the sat morning, or those of you who are closer just head down for the day.

Please also remember to bring your driving licence- you'll need it to sign on for rwyb

Would they take 4 separate bookings for 4 separate pitches?

Why don't we all aim for the same campsite and book in individually, (we may be in different parts of the camp site) then all congregate round one of the Volvos with our camping chairs and have a few quiet beers?

Not a very Autoshite way but at least we all know where we are!

I'm still game for Swallow Hall campsite. Looks the best to me.

Ive just spoken to Swallow Hall and its seems like a nice place - though she was a bit suspicious about a call half an hour previously about a group or a gathering attending, and asked if there was anything happening locally. (I said I was camping on my own and did not know of any local events)

She has plenty of space for Friday - I asked if I it was quiet enough for me to pick my camping spot rather than be allocated one and she said that was fine, it is off season and they are very quiet.

You don't have to be a member of a camping/caravan club to camp.

£10 for one car, one person and one tent.

Hot showers included.

The golf clubhouse will be open for drinks and will close if it is quiet - she could not say a time but suggested if there were people in drinking they would stay open.

Her suspicions have been raised, she doesn't want groups of people staying, so I propose that we do not to call her again. We don't want her shutting her doors because we scared her off!

I think we have all the info we need.

Address: Swallow Hall. Crockey Hill, York. YO19 4SG

Job sorted!

i'm just going to book a hotel-cant be arsed with all that bollocks tbh.

will just see folk on sat am at the track:)

Who is game for camping then?

Posted

Mr 320touring is arranging me a hotel room at the same time as his own. I'm scunnered with the camping tbh - first they cancel the camping at the site then they don't sell tickets then the local campsites are turning away groups. Fuck 'em. Fuck the hassle. If one more thing goes arse over tit then I'm calling the game a bogey and phoning to cancel. Hopefully not though.

What a flipping shower of wank, eh?

Anyone reading this would think us Yorkshire lot are a miserable, curmudgeonly, unwelcoming pack of retards.

I was well up for trucking across for a bit of beer and banter around a campfire on Friday evening with you lot, kip in the Pleasure Wagon, and scoot early doors back for work Saturday. Cock and balls.

Hey, just a thought...

Hotel's now booked for Friday, right?

Do you lot have Sunday free or not?

We could all get together on our top field here, Saturday night, weather permitting. I'm at BD23, a couple hours cross country from the drag strip

A fire and a few ales, camp over, lazy morning on Sunday, home in the afternoon. Could be fun if a few fancy it...

Posted

Thanks for the offer bro, but im working at 6pm Saturday!

Aaahm oot.

Posted

Nah, I know you, if there's a fire going, and beers are flowing you'd roll up, even if it was after you clock off at 1am!

Sounds good weather-wise. I might be upo for some top-field drinks etc.. Finally coughed up for the GLF part too...

If myself and 320 were going to camp at Malhamland with a 2 hour drive, we might as well just stay at home!

We are booked in to a hotel in Wetherby, apparantly, so only about 30 - 40 mins away

Is it just Friday night booked for hotelling?

Are you up for Saturday night here?

:D Yeah, spill the beans, then the rest of us can camp in the car park, and come up to your room to take a dump :D

Dunno what the script is for Saturday yet. I suspect I'll be coming back up the road.

We're at the Mercure iirc

Posted

Righto, Wetherby's likely to be crawling with cocksmockers, twatweasels and other assorted windaelickers who will be attending the "Mint" festival (http://www.mintfestival.co.uk/line-up/) up at the racecourse (it already looks like a trade convention for the sellers of circus tents up there). Even the inclusion of an act called "Transit Mafia" does not change my opinion that this event will fuck up W'by for the entire weekend.

It might be best to come off a junction lower than the one for the services, as the Mercure is just off of the roundabout at the south of W'by.  Fish'n'chips from either the Wetherby Whaler or The Frying Pan are good, and an excellent curry can be had from the Spice4U.

Could be up for a convoy to Melbourne on the Saturday morning - when are you leaving?

If it's the Merure, there's a private field/grass area opposite it on the other side of the roundabout that's been used for camping in the past.  Somehow I think you're too classy for the sort ofg camping that went on, as you're not planning to take a shit in the middle of it and you're not likely to leave Calor gas canisters scattered around...

Thanks for the knowledge re things going on in Wetherby:)

Think we'll be down late on Friday eve, so likely just a feed and sleep before getting up to go to the event.

Think we'll head off early to try and avoid traffic on the way to the Raceway.
