Recolouring dealer sticker

Recommended Posts

The dealer sticker int th'owd Austin has faded. It is completely transparent - I presume the lettering would have been picked out in colour, probably blue. Any tips for what to use to re-touch the lettering? Glass paint? Peeling the sticker off is out of the question, I do have the rear screen out. I can post a photo afterwards.

Come to think of it, red is highly liable to fade in the sunlight. But red for a BL whirling turbine?

DMB or there's a lad on Facebook called Jono Barber who says he can make them for £3 plus postage, I'm yet to see any of his work though.

I reckon painting a sticker would be a disaster.

+1 on that. It surely would just look a mess. Get a new one made up. Ok, not original, but would look the part. Only you, and us will ever know.

I've done it. I must say I'm quite pleased with the result, granted I used a fairly crude method of outlining and then filling with a blue gel pen, but from a few feet away it looks probably as it would have done. I don't know how permanent it'll be, but nothing will brush against it on the window. Condensation may make it run, though, we'll just have to wait and see. With this as a basis I could now get one made up with DMB!

Excellent work, I would be pleased with that....

Thanks chaps for the praise - I am rather pleased with the result! Now just got the bodywork to sort, and the engine to overhaul, and the ongoing game of catch-up with rust... I dread to think how many hours I've spent on this car, but as you people know we'd never have it any other way!

Yes looks good.  Blacklers were Peugeot after that weren't they (or maybe before)?

I believe so, yes. I googled them some time ago and only found a business listing, nothing referring to their 'glory days' Austin history. I intended to write a letter with a photo of the car saying it was supplied by them, possibly jogging some memories of the past. I never got round to it and I doubt there'd be anybody who cared anyway. However, the car had lived in Devonshire all its life before coming here, and the first owner was a former Austin employee, so I think it's one of the better ones, not a Friday afternoon car.
