Daughter has her test practical driving test booked for next week, so off to look at a prospective Jazz which seems to suit the bill. 2004, 5-Door 1.4Si. Located just over the hill in deepest Dunfermline. Bit leggy at 137k -- but priced accordingly. ETA 3pm....

Check for rear wheel bearing noise , noisy gearboxes .also that it's had all 8 plugs and the valve clearances done at some point

Watch for kangerooing too on test. Egr fail about 100 quid. Otherwise they are marvellous

Ah, that IDSI thing makes sense Phil.

In Thailand (where I spend my winters), Jazzes either have IDSI badges (economy version), all the cool kids drive VTEC yo ones.

Did we only get IDSI here?

Might be worth checking the handbrake is working OK, My wife has a 57 Jazz 1.4 and the handbrake only just holds the car on any kind of incline, had it adjusted several times but always seems to go back to just about adequate pretty quickly, other than that it's been a great car and very useful for transporting awkward objects as the seats fold down in all kinds of clever ways.

It's had one hub on the rear already and sounded quiet on the half decent test-ride which included a dually section. Handbrake seems to work fine as does the clutch and the gears. Full Honda history up till 2010, independent serviced since then and last serviced in Nov' 2014. Engine is slightly tappety from cold start but soon quietens down with no smoke or untoward rattles. Oil looked clean and bang on the mark for level, recent tyres & exhaust & brake service done too. Happy that it will be the relaible(ish), cheap to run wee car she needs, I shook on £900.

Insurance is priced at under £40 under £400 with my daughter on a provo license -- me and the wife as named drivers, zero NCD pish/nonsense malaraky.

Haven't told my daughter yet, so will be a nice surprise when I roll up at her door with the Minty Green Jazz, mid-week.

At least it's no a Vauxhall, pet. :-D

Cheap enough at that .

The early recentish jazz was idsi in either 1.4 or later 1.2 guises . The newer jazz is an ivtec yo

From last MOT, May 2015.

Test expiry date:26/05/2016

Advisory Notice issued

Nearside Headlamp deteriorated but light output not reduced (1.7.5a)

Offside Headlamp deteriorated but light output not reduced (1.7.5a)

Outer headlamp lense has gone hazzy. What's the best cure for that I wonder? Other than replacing the lamps and or ignoring it, natch.

Bit of cutting compound and some elbow grease . Every year for mot usually . Or there are guys that come round and do it properly with uv resistant polish etc for about 40 quid
