captain_70s Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 A co-worker's girlfriend owns a Mazda 3 which features fist sized rust holes in the front wings. It's genuinely impressive, he also had a Mazda 3 but the subframe snapped. Both these cars are the same age as my Civic which has no rust problems at all, although it is from doon sooth... brickwall 1
oldcars Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Subframe on my Kia is looking a little* scabby. I have cleaned it up and waxoiled it up but it will need replaced soon.
nisfan Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 Mazdas are THE worst for rust , on par with datsuns captain_70s 1

Ben_O Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 One of my old neighbours had a Samara, it replaced his Talbot Solara I always admired it because it was the only one i had seen at that point in my life. Mind you, the same could be said for the Solara really DodgyBastard 1

I think I will tidy up the rust and keep it. I had the wheels left over from the first Wilsonx2 309 I bought so thought I would fit them to see how it looked. DodgyBastard Posted August 19, 2016 Author Posted August 19, 2016 DSC_0633 by srblythe, on Flickr Previously I had said that the rallye steels I had balanced and fitted to the c15 didn't wobble but I hadn't gotten it above 60 at the time of writing, The steering wheel wobble was actually pretty unbearable above 60 mph so I removed the tyres from the wheels fitted to the front of the van and fitted them to the Saxo spare wheels I had just painted. I didn't bother balancing them and the difference is amazing, I can cruise at 70 without the risk of hand arm vibration syndrome... oldcars, Skizzer and Jim Bell 3
DodgyBastard Posted August 20, 2016 Author Posted August 20, 2016 Took the 305 for a nice long drive from Dunoon to Pitlochry and back down to fife, must have clocked a couple of hundred miles and the odometer rolled around to 108k. DodgyBastard Posted August 21, 2016 Author Posted August 21, 2016 While I had the car running I noticed it was leaking, the engine was covered in oil and the rocker cover appeared to be leaking. DSC_0207 by srblythe, on Flickr Old Gasket DSC_0208 by srblythe, on Flickr Mrs FOAD fitted the new gasket DSC_0209 by srblythe, on Flickr The old gasket had a few splits and the metal surfaces were caked in oil and grime, with the new gasket on it no longer leaks oil but the arm on the pump is leaking diesel and will likely need changed. I already did the one on the 305 so there's a link somewhere in this thread for the correct o ring.

DodgyBastard Posted August 21, 2016 Author Posted August 21, 2016 We finally had a go at painting with a compressor and spray gun DSC_0219 by srblythe, on Flickr If the paint is thin enough it works quite well, the grey wasn't all that great but I have a big tin of red oxide I painted the r18 with, I remembered it was very thin so chucked some of that in. DSC_0217 by srblythe, on Flickr It lasted quite well. I'm thinking I should paint a car with the spray gun, the paint on the ranger is quite bad so that's a possibility to practice on.
DodgyBastard Posted August 23, 2016 Author Posted August 23, 2016 The ranger is going forestry commission green, I picked up a tin of metal paint from aldi for £5 so if I get it finished it'll be my cheapest paint job yet... Kiltox Posted August 25, 2016 Posted August 25, 2016 Sort that front plate out with some sticky pads instead of screws and it would look pretty damn clean!
